Kerbal Space Program update 1.4 Grand Discussion thread.
Superfluous J replied to UomoCapra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No they're going to foist the flawed 1.4 off on you too. Every change breaks somebody's workflow. You are quite literally the first person I've seen laud the old placement of the door. Other than it's too-high mass, that door was the only real reason I never used the pod. -
Mun Orbit not completing
Superfluous J replied to maculator's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
You have not updated your tracking station so you cannot see patched conics. If you do while in this situation, you'll see that the predicted "orbit" actually leaves Mun's SOI. Basically, when a smaller body is in orbit of a larger body, it is possible to be in a mathematical orbit that does not actually keep you close enough to that smaller body to stay in orbit. Just burn down a little bit more, until the orbit completes. It's about half way further down and shouldn't cost you all that much fuel. -
I didn't have time to more fully answer before, but I was able to load the game and I can now make things a little more clear. This is totally mostly unnecessary. You don't need to "point" antennas at anything. All you need on the ship is one relay antenna (or more if you want to stack them to make the signal go further) and it'll automatically point at anything, all the time. This means that to talk to Kerbin from the far side of Minmus, you can have a single relay antenna on a satellite on the far side of Minmus (but in view of Kerbin) and it'll happily relay the signal to Kerbin. The RA-2 does not have a "range" per-se. It has a "rating." that rating is 2.00G. That means that with a Level 1 tracking station, it can talk to Kerbin from 2Gm away. With a level 2 tracking station, that's 10Gm away. With a Level 3, that's 22.4Gm away. I didn't memorize these numbers, I got them from the stats of the part when right clicking it in the VAB: This rating (2.00G) makes it a "Class 3" antenna, which I think matches the table in the wiki. But it surely matches the table in KSPedia, in the game. Click the book with the A on it in the lower right of the VAB and go to Comm Netowrk -> Commnet -> Range and you'll see: Pretty much ignore anything other than this that you see, unless that thing is easier to use and also matches with this table tl;dr I don't know where you got "it's a 200Mm rating" from, but that's basically and blatantly wrong.

Antenna-to-antenna range is far less than antenna-to-tracking-station range. Though I didn't realize it was that much lower.

The millisecond Squad or Take 2 inhibit my ability to mod the game or make copies for my own personal use I'll care. I swear I will. Until then, jeez this is a lot of kerfuffle over nothing.

To see a few of the new features of 1.4, I built "Kerpollo 1" on top of a "Katurn 5" rocket, with a (hehe) "Keagle" lander and hopped over to Mun for a quick flag-and-forget. Love the new ship naming paradigm and am sure I'll eventually be able to find what fuel tanks are what. After 5 years of the same tanks, it's really hard to train my brain to see what's what.

The first thing I did after testing on Steam was to copy 1.4 into my default KSP directory. It works fine. Actually, Fair Use allows it and DRM doesn't stand in the way, so really I'm perfectly within my rights to do it. - "Breakin' the law breakin' the law." "Actually you're obeying the spirit, if not the letter of law." - - "..." - "!" - "!!!" - "Obeyin' the spirit if not the letter of the law, obeyin' the spirit if not the letter of the law."

Kerbal Space Program update 1.4 Grand Discussion thread.
Superfluous J replied to UomoCapra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes because Squad (and every other developer) has never had to release multiple versions after a big update to fix little bugs. -
Kerbal Space Program update 1.4 Grand Discussion thread.
Superfluous J replied to UomoCapra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
OMG texture swapping and vessel naming and DOWNLOADING NOW NOW NOW. I'm so glad I don't give a whiff about the EULA changes. It took me 3-4 tries before it worked. Keep trying! -
There is no word that it will and I can't see how they'd add it this late in the game, so I'd be extremely surprised if it did.

Kerbal Space Program: Making History Expansion - Release Date Announcement
Superfluous J replied to SQUAD's topic in 2018
So long as the player with the DLC doesn't use any DLC parts, then I think so. We won't know until someone tries though. But as always, someone with the DLC could copy their install to a new directory and uninstall the DLC, which will cause them to be on the same version as the person without the DLC that they are playing with.- 444 replies

No I had anything else to do.

I tend to start a new stock career when a new version drops, and then add mods as they update. I tend to not need a mod until it's updated so it's cool, and have plenty of other games Into The Breach to play if I am stuck wanting to - for example - go interplanetary before Transfer Window Planner is updated. I've even been known to - gasp - do without a mod for a while.

Poll: Are you buying the "Making History" DLC?
Superfluous J replied to Yakuzi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm buying it and jumping head first into the mission builder. -
To what? I tried both GravityTurn and MechJeb for this on a 3.2x Kerbin and eventually gave up after many tries to find numbers that worked. I couldn't even find numbers that gave me super inefficient launches that worked, they all either burned up or nosedived into the ground. The main reason I don't play with larger planets is that I hate the long wait to LKO and would rather just not play if I can't automate it. So I'm currently not playing.

Why simplify the tags for joystick buttons?
Superfluous J replied to Dafni's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I don't even think 1 input device (other than mouse and keybaord) is all that common, little alone 2. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were the only one on the forum with this problem. I would file a bug report at http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/projects/ksp- 9 replies

[1.12.x] Transfer Window Planner v1.8.0.0 (April 11)
Superfluous J replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
The alarm defaults to 24 hours early, which in KSP is 4 days. It's in the TWP settings window, somewhere in the dropdowns. Click everything and you'll find it, sometimes the dropdown lists look like title bars of sections. I personally set it to 0 time before, because I care more about when it actually is, than getting an alarm for it. -

The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
If there is, I don't know it. I spend more time arranging images than I do documenting the mission. I guess if you uploaded them ONE BY ONE in REVERSE ORDER and then QUIT IN DISGUST HALFWAY THROUGH that would work. Well maybe not that last step. -
The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I get to move me to the win column, after a fairly poorly executed Jool-3 mission to Val, Bop, and Pol. https://imgur.com/a/Zep0T -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Superfluous J replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Related to that (but not sci-fi in particular) it also causes the main characters of a show to not wear helmets when going into a firefight, even though EVERYBODY ELSE present is fully armored.
