I'm with @IncongruousGoat here. The whole point of the Caveman challenge is that it's stock. Totally stock. Anything that actually changes the way you'd play the game - good or bad - should be out. This includes going into map mode to get your Ap height (but not time, as that's not available in stock) instead of just looking at the KER HUD. It'd be like doing a Jool 5 but not going to Pol because you went to Bop and they're basically the same so why bother.

Hey just because it works doesn't mean it's not a placebo. But no really I think it works. Like exercising works to build muscle, or repeating things helps remember them.
-
Actually I tried that in college. Even with edit running (notepad? You'd need Windows for that and my machine only came with MS DOS 5) the act of getting to the computer woke me up too much to effectively remember the dream. Maybe if you could type well enough with your phone but that takes a lot of mental energy for me, far more than writing or typing.
-
For several months in my teens I kept a dream journal. The first week or so the entries were like "It was in the woods and I think my teacher was there." and then suddenly it was like a switch flipped, and I was filling the page with stuff I remembered. Then I was filling multiple pages with multiple remembered dreams in a night. When I stopped, I had actually woken up a few times in the night in order to write them down. I stopped doing it because I couldn't justify the time spent in the morning writing it all down. Either I'd be late for school or I'd have to get up early (something I still don't want to do decades later). However, to this day I remember my dreams better than I did before I started writing them down, though not nearly as well as when I actually was writing them down.

An addition to the names
Superfluous J replied to Spudmeist3r's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Other than the Big 4 (and I think some easter egg names) all the names in KSP are procedurally generated. I wouldn't be surprised if "Kar" and "sten" are in that list, so it's pretty likely that your name is already in there. -
I don't know about a scientist per se but I always thought it would be cool to go bank really far, like ancient Greece or Egypt, and show as many people as would watch a simple cistern, pipe, and water faucet. Then come back to the present day and see if we're living on Mars yet. Or even better, convince people that thumbs aren't important and we should use a base 8 system. Then computers and we would not have to do so much muckery to convert between our preferred number systems.

I basically do this all the time, without the fake knowing part. I haven't had a nightmare in decades. Whenever something bad happens, I just think "nope" and rewind to make something else happen. And never ever during this do I realize I'm dreaming or even think about it.

1000 times this. If independent studios don't have a way to make money off of their games before release, we'd not have KSP, Factorio, or Minecraft (to name 3 off the top of my head). We'd of course also not have Space Base DF-9 or any other abandoned (or just shovelware to start) project, but nothing's perfect. I'll take a DF-9 if it gives me a KSP as well. I paid less for both of them than I did for a single GTA4.

What do you guys drink while playing or do you drink at all?
Superfluous J replied to GregOrmay's topic in The Lounge
That man will have to answer. To the Coca-Cola company. -

Coffee. But I basically drink coffee all the time, it's not special for KSP. I do enjoy adult beverages, mostly Stouts and IPAs with strong flavors. -
Star Wars The Fans Strike Back
Superfluous J replied to Cheif Operations Director's topic in The Lounge
I like 'em so far, and will happily watch both Solo and Ep9 in the theater in 3d, if not IMAX 3d. As opposed to the prequels. I saw 1 on opening night, 2 I snuck in before it left theaters, and 3 I eventually watched on cable. -
Well it's not actually a lie. You can accept as many contracts as you want... It says nothing about how many will be offered. We use weasel words for a reason.

I have officially been here for 4 years
Superfluous J replied to Clockwork13's topic in Kerbal Network
Congrats! You spurred me to check my own start time and it turns out that yesterday (January 8) I could have celebrated my 4.5 Unlike you, though, it's not 1/4 of my life. More like 1/10th -
That's totally fair. It's just sad that they removed functionality for a financial - instead of a technical - reason.

Ah. His problem was playing music locally off a hard drive or his network. Makes sense that they'd disable that to encourage you to pay use their partners.

Collecting All the Science
Superfluous J replied to Wcmille's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There aren't actual "counts" per se. An experiment has a "base value" and a "maximum value." When you take a reading, you get the base value the first time, and will have (max)-(base) left over. The next time you take a reading, you get (what's left) * (base / max). This repeats until that value equals zero. For example, Mystery Goo has a base of 10 and a max of 13. The first time, you'll get 10 and have 3 left over. The next time, you'll get 3*(10/13)=2.3 and have 0.7 left over. The next time, you'll get 0.7*(10/13)=~0.54 and have ~0.16 left over. The next time, you'll get 0.16*(10/13)=~0.12 and have ~0.04 left over. Etc. Note: There's a planet modifier in there too. So you won't actually get 10 science in most places, but 10 times the planet's modifier. Unless you're challenging yourself, there's no need to muck about with all this. Just take 1 or 2 readings and move on. Due to rounding and other issues, I don't think anything short of experimenting in-game will tell you the actual number of times you'd need to take a reading to run "what's left" down to zero. Note: for some experiments, "base value" and "maximum value" are the same. Crew Reports and EVA Reports are like this. For these, one reading will get all the data and you're done. -
Gotta be 3,720 to 1

You would not go anywhere, if all the forces are equal (which they would be in the exact center of a perfect uniform sphere, or in the hollowed out center, as stated above. Or you'd keep moving in the direction you were going, as @insert_name noted.
-
Assuming the universe is only made up of you and it and you are of zero mass, yes. More accurately, the sum of all gravity force vectors will be zero.

I don't have an Xbone but did have a 360, and according to a friend the newer console does not handle personal music while gaming like the older one did.

Star Wars Episode VIII (8) the Last Jedi Discussion
Superfluous J replied to Kerbal01's topic in The Lounge
Had you watched it... It's still be in last place. I made it about half way. There are movies so bad they're good, and there are movies that are so bad they pass that and go back to being bad. -

Superfluous J replied to Kerbal01's topic in The Lounge
Ranking the movies, eh? I'll go with... 4, 5, R1, 7, 6, 8, 1, 3, 2, SWHS. I'm hoping Solo (and any future movies) will be somewhere between R1 and 1, -
Okay, if you think that not caring about micropayments is actual equal to or even remotely similar to not caring when people are rounded up and murdered, then at least read the entire post you quoted and bolded part of, and realize that what I was actually saying was that you don't need to care either because it doesn't affect you. You don't have to buy the DLC. You don't have to buy $.99 maneuver nodes. You can - gasp - stop and just keep playing 1.3.1, or 1.4, or whatever the last version was that didn't have all this stuff. And you won't miss out on any great content because I guarantee you, any great content would be behind a paywall as well. You'll actually be solidifying yourself with the best version of KSP there ever will be. Here's a more apt poem, far more true to reality: *They haven't done either of these things, and there are no indications they will, ever.

Please don't compare micro payments to the Holocaust.

Star Wars Episode VIII (8) the Last Jedi Discussion
Superfluous J replied to Kerbal01's topic in The Lounge
My problem is that they got shot and the TIE Fighter didn't immediately explode, like every other one ever. Though you could say maybe the First Order cared more about their pilots than the Empire, and gave them the luxury of a pressurized cabin. And enough armor to not immediately explode when shot at
