  1. It depends on how much you're willing to "cheat." You already talked about a lander so I assume you're thinking of having a huge ship with multiple landers on it, maybe one for Eve and then several more for other worlds. For Eve, you'd land, then take off in a smaller craft to rejoin the mothership. If you took this a bit further, you could set up the mothership to pass by Eve from far away without ever entering orbit. Then, about a month out, launch your lander and get to Eve early, land, and then return before your mothership gets too far away. With some planning, you could use Gilly to slow yourself down to save fuel. That way, you're not using a ton of fuel on the large ship. If you can work out the mechanics of it, you could go in and hit Eve and Moho, then go back out and hit Duna et al at a more leisurely pace. Ideally you could hit them all "voyager style" but I have no idea how to calculate that. And no, I have no idea how much fuel all this would take, or how to go about doing it. But I think you gave me something to shoot for in 0.21
  2. That Torus is frickin' awesome! I can just imagine the Engi swarming over it while it's being built in orbit. Nicely done!
  3. That is not correct. Armstrong landed and walked first. Buzz rode along and walked second. Collins didn't watch them through a window; he was left in orbit.
  4. The last thing I did in the (still current) demo was to land on Mun and return to Kerbin. I made that a goal, and upon that goal's completion I decided that the game deserved the $23 they are charging. I sadly don't remember much about the ship. It was pretty standard, with a huge launcher, a mostly unnecessary (and fuel inefficient) second stage to get into Munar orbit and start the descent, and a 6-leg, small-thruster affair to actually land. I didn't leave anything (other than the 2nd stage debris) there. I didn't even know about docking and I think it may not even be a part of the demo. The entire lander and its single Kerbal returned to a splashdown in the middle of "Frica Sea," which is what I've dubbed the large body of water that you launch over that is east of Frica, the continent/country you launch from. And yes, Frica is pronounced such that Frica Sea is pronounced the same as fricassee
  5. While it is interesting it's not (completely) surprising. The middle and endpoints are too "nonrandom" for people, as are the 1/3 and 2/3 points. I'm not sure why more people prefer the bottom of the poll over the top, but I'm sure there's a reason. It could be as simple as we like larger numbers I vaguely recall an experiment where, when asked to pick a random number between 1 and 10, people tended to pick 7.
  6. Yay! I was the last one to pick the only option that had 0 votes. If I'd randomly clicked one lower, I'd have been in the majority but instead I'm a trailblazer! I liked "Choose this" back before it was cool.
  7. I'm (very) new to the game so I'll start my Space Program. Not restart. Not recreate. Start. From scratch. I'm just a little excited.
  8. Yeah but I'd much rather tweak an existing craft that I know other than one or two parts, than try to remember the 84 OTHER parts that I'd have to put back exactly the same way they were before.
  9. The first time I tried docking, I had no clue what I was doing. I somehow managed to crash my two ships' fuel tanks together at about 50 m/s. I don't think I could do that again if I tried. After I stopped laughing, I did the responsible thing and used their RCS tanks to deorbit each ship. Yes, somehow the Kerbals survived the ordeal. I successfully docked the next time, though it was more luck than anything else and it took maybe 30 minutes of orbital ballet to even get the shot at being lucky. These days I can dock most of the time, so long as I don't get ahead of myself and keep each step simple.
  10. Nice to know. I've been holding off on missions because I want to set up a whole system of bases and orbiters, but don't want to lose them all when .21 comes out. Now, I can at least build them all to keep myself occupied and be ready to go when it hits.
