  1. Or maybe all parts could have the capability to get a "Broken!" status like solar panels, where it's still there but not functioning as it's supposed to (tanks leaking fuel, Reaction wheels losing their precision, etc.).
  2. Personally, I try to keep my version of the game as up-to-date as possible, mods be damned.
  3. They just respawn back into your roster, no need to rehire them.
  4. I think you can just surround the capsule with a "collar" of vertically-orientated handholds. They'll balance better than a half-collar of horizontal ones, and Kerbals can move sideways across ladders just fine. Eightfold symmetry should do the trick. Also, be sure that if you're using MechJeb that you install the AR202 unit parallel to the axis of thrust and pointed upwards. Also, be sure to right-click your main command pod and chose "control from here" from the list.
  5. Once you're in a stable-ish orbit, thrust is really no object. Otherwise, the PB-ION and LV-N engines would have no use whatsoever.
  6. Personally I listen to: "Countdown" (Rush) "Rocket Man" (Elton John) A ton of Touhou music A ton of Kevin MacLeod music A couple of Abney Park songs
  7. Personally, I love Jool and its various moons (not that I've ever put a ship there, haha), because it's so weird and alien. Just don't provoke the Kraken.
  8. Most likely, the update will not completely ruin saves, but mods are always iffy. Plus, this update will add a ton of mostly sciency stuff, so it might be a good idea to start from a clean slate anyway.
  9. This is Jeb and Co we're talking about. Several million gees is nothin'.
  10. I think they just bail out of the capsule. Then, they jury-rig a way to boost the efficiency and power of their RCS jetpacks about a thousand times, and they just jet themselves back to Kerbin. EDIT: Or cloning. That works too.
  11. Personally, I think Jool is beautiful, as long as you don't get too close. Dat moon system.
  12. You know your mission is screwed when your navigational computer starts directly quoting HAL 9000. (KAL?)
  13. Also, there's a mod out there that allows you to detach and relocate stock radial parts from EVA, You could install it, fly another 'naut over to the station, and simply move the RCS block by hand.
  14. Personally, my horror game of choice is a short-ish flash point-and-click game called Owl's Nest, it's on Armorgames.
  15. I think kerbals are sexless. They can choose to grow their hair long or keep it short (required for the space program to keep it out of your face, hence no long-haired kerbals ingame so far).
  16. Either keep them around for future use, as NASA does it, or build something quasi-useful out of them, like a refueling station or the transfer stage of a rocket.
  17. This thread is for posting stories and/or pictures of difficult or notable tasks completed with Squad-built stock rockets (or near-stock--Adding a MechJeb unit or something is still valid). The reason that this isn't under "challenges" is because it has no clear goal.
  18. Suggestion: Nose cap fairings. They would be attached like normal fairings, and would decouple with considerable force from the base, but not from each other. EDIT: Perhaps you misunderstood, this would be a hollow cone with stuff actually inside it (i.e. not just jettisoning the whole nosecone, I could do that with stock).
  19. Wide, low bases and a low center of gravity help a lot. Also, try adding some SAS--I mean, inline stabilizers, to give you more torque and allow you to roll your rover back to its feet.
  20. Nice to meet you! Have fun launching! (And flying, and tumbling out of control when you get your staging wrong, and falling, and inevitably crashing!)
  21. Unfortunately, the SPH/VAB both only use daytime in 0.21, but we eagerly await the day in which that will change. Day/night DOES change in the Space Center view, though.
  22. I'm not sure how to calculate it, but it takes VERY little thrust to deorbit something, about 2-3 seconds of retrograde burn on a Poodle engine to deorbit from a 100km orbit. You might also want to take a look at the Pirated Weapons Mod and the Lazor family of mods for some good debris-obliterating equipment, Lazor Sunbeam especially.
  23. Jebediah Kerman, astronaut. A man barely alive. "Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Jebediah will be that man. Better than he was before. Better. Stronger. Faster."
  24. I usually just send up a supply tanker up to refill the station and then land it on a parachute to qualify for the return chevron on the Kerbin ribbon.
