  1. Less warfighters being sent off to die would mean countries would be less reluctant to fight, which would mean more wars.
  2. Not sure how much you care for informational mods, this is probably what you need...
  3. So, it appears no announcement on winners this weekend. While waiting for what seemed to be an eternity, I realized something I should have had in my story. While I don't expect this final-final draft to be judged at this late date, (edited:)if my story is one of the chosen, I hope this version could be published in the newsletter, whenever that will be... or maybe not...
  4. Use an image hosting site like imgur.com and paste the link here. It’ll auto-embed
  5. Well, Making History is technically stock, but it’s an expansion pack you have to buy for $15 USD. There’s other good stuff in it too I prefer stock parts only too, but I consider MH to be stock Welcome to the forums!
  6. I haven’t used the airlock part in MH, but as I understand it it should be simple to use. Just attach it anywhere, then extend it when needed. Transfer a Kerbal into it then click the hatch to exit
  7. MH has an extendable airlock part with a hatch, that holds one Kerbal when extended
  8. I think the point is that instead of complying with regs by way of using a software/control workaround, they should find a way to make the design work without such workarounds, or realize that the stretch is simply too much of a stretch. Talk about Band-aid solutions when a tourniquet is called for. It all comes back to the K.I.S.S. principle, instead of requiring pilots to learn complex procedures for a single aircraft model when a computer falls victim to Garbage In Garbage Out
  9. Das Bot: A German internet bot starts spamming ads for VeeDubs all over every forum there is, cleverly cruising under Captcha nets and other obstacles.
  10. Well, it seems they decided to rely on the pilots to fly the plane when the computers started getting bad data. But they need to finish analyzing the "black boxes" to figure out the sequence of events. It's more concerning that the aircraft was back in the air when pilots were reporting problems...
  11. @UomoCapra, @JustJim So no announcement on winners today after all? I would hope it's not hiding on reddit or twitter or something...
  12. A tv news report I saw suggested that properly trained pilots would have overridden or taken over from the autopilot. OTOH, a critical sensor like that should have redundancy, or the computer should have been programmed to use other data (altitude, airspeed, climb rate) to determine that the sensor reading was erroneous.
  13. If you put the data in a lab, you can then rerun the experiment and send it back to KSC for full science. Similarly, you can take, for example, a crew report and radio it home. Take another crew report, which is now worth nothing to send home, and put it in the lab for its full data value.
  14. Those both sound a lot like parentitis. It’s no surprise, since “-itis” means “inflammation of the -.” My teenager certainly does get me inflamed...
  15. That’s quite the boulder sitting on the bottom (southern?) hemi-roid. Any estimate on its size?
  16. I think what you’re after is “All y’all” , but it works on all parts of the same type (solar panels, radiators, etc) but not exact parts (eg all solar panels, not just Gigantors.) I find it incredibly useful.
  17. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the mods that I use for interplanetary transfers: Transfer Window Planner will help find the most efficient burns. It may not be perfect, but it will at least get you into the ballpark. And the maneuver info it gives you can be copy and pasted directly into.... Precise Node! The way to not have to worry about inclination is to get the An or Dn to be where your craft will intercept Kerbin
  18. Whoop, my bad, that's what happens when I post generic info without taking a close look at the images. I just read the part about the bigger engines... Been there...
  19. Well, as Snark said, you really want the small Terrier engine since it is intended as an early small lander engine. The big engines you've unlocked are great for lobbing heavier stuff into orbit, but are not intended for landers. As he also said, unlock as many science instruments as you can, because that let's you collect more science on any mission, as long as you put them on your craft! But of course it's easy to be seduced by bigger, more powerful engines, MOAR POWAH! dV (delta V, from the greek letter delta, which means "change") is the measure of much your vessel can (or needs to) change its velocity vector. The same amount of fuel will give more dV to a lighter craft. This thread is chock full of good tips and tricks, but beware, it started a long time ago before 1.0 was released, so the older posts may no longer be accurate. It appears you are on PC, which opens up a universe of mods. The easiest way to get them is with CKAN. You really don't need any mods to start, but as time goes on you may find yourself wishing for more info than the stock game provides which is why I started using mods. Kerbal Alarm Clock and Navball Docking Alignment Indicator are the first two mods I ever got. Eventually, you will want to dock. It is hard at first, but gets easy when you know how to do it., Part of the challenge is how well you balance the RCS on your craft (capslock for fine control is far more forgiving of unbalanced RCS). The other half of the challenge is how you fly it. For that, I made this handy image: Hope I haven't overwhelmed you! Welcome to this great game, and happy launchings!
  20. Particle accelerators routinely accelerate protons to 0.99c, but I have no idea how much energy it would take to make more thrust than a photon drive...
  21. I could have, but it was Tupperware. Heavy duty reusable
  22. I forgot to put a fork in my lunch when I went to work. Eating spaghetti with a small plastic spoon was... challenging.
  23. That looked strangely familiar, as if I’ve had that happen dozens or even hundreds of times in some game...
