  1. Methinks this thread is overdue to be decanted from the cryotanks and revived. 2. Well, you have such a nice convenient perch there. And I bet it's nice and warm from all those electronics underneath.
  3. That’s usually how it works once rapid transit arrives somewhere. Pretty much every station on the SkyTrain driverless transit system in Greater Vancouver has sprouted a forest of condo/office towers since they started running the system in 1985 (if they weren’t already there). Which were in great demand, helping to fuel skyrocketing housing costs.
  4. Just stick with Vectors until you’re well out of the soup. Wolfhound for the top stage or two if you have MH. Worked for me.
  5. The biggest hazard with older cars is whatever crud has built up in the bottom of the tank. Sediments can plug up the fuel filter, while water can cause corrosion or get past the piston rings into the oil. Lowers fuel levels also allow more condensation in the tank Another issue with 80-90s era fuel injected cars is that the fuel pump is in the tank, submerged in fuel. The fuel keeps the electric pump cool. If you were in the habit of driving around with less than a quarter tank all the time, the pump could burn out, for a $700+ repair bill. I heard that from a few mechanics. I don’t think it’s an issue with newer cars.
  6. Not a big deal, a tank is a tank. The changes only change what gets attached to the tank. Besides, it’s presumably the BFGrasshopper tank
  7. Nah, there's a bunch of us here. I cut my teeth on Pong, and then my cousin got an Atari (no number needed back then) and we got a ColecoVision. Then there was playing around on some Apple IIe's at high school, and then my first PC (Commodore PC10--III IBM clone good-for-nothing piece of crap). Then the NES and Sega Genesis (the Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike series was a blast) came along and basically ruined my post-secondary education. Who would have thought I actually did need sleep to get through university? Oh hey, anyone remember the handheld game Electronic Quarterback? Just a few red LED's and very basic sounds Got my first modern Win95 machine (Pentium 100) when my brother introduced me to WarCraft 2 and have been gaming on PC's ever since. Right now I alternate KSP and Civ6
  8. Sounds like some people need to get out to a batting cage or golf driving range, or chop some wood, or grab a hockey stick and a ball near a nice solid wall, and really just pound the snot out of something... Always a good way to vent. My son went the whole summer without the XB1 because he blew off homework (kept saying it was done until the teachers finally emailed us) to play it, passed math and science by the skin of his shiny white hiney.
  9. OMG A sighting of @Red Iron Crown! This after the news reported a sighting and distant video of Ogopogo (Nessie’s Canadian cousin) in Okanogan lake last night! Hmm, coincidence? What’s next? *looks out the window for a Sasquatch* Seriously dude, welcome back, and thanks for posting your meme album. Hope you’ll stick around awhile.
  10. From that statement: (hmm I don’t see a button for an unattributed quote on mobile) ”They affirmed the necessity of further close interaction between NASA and Roscosmos technical teams in identifying and eliminating the cause of the leak,” (emphasis mine) Given that this is a Russian factory, that should make whoever drilled the hole very, very afraid
  11. They (management) didn't even want to try to get some pics https://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/13/us/shuttle-team-sought-view-from-satellite-nasa-official-says.html
  12. I should add that IIRC the original caption for this was along the lines of “If the Shuttle was flown by NASCAR”
  13. Google Image search. It’s old; I’m pretty sure I first saw it while STS was still flying. I just googled “Shuttle McDonalds” since I knew that was on it. It also brought up images of Endeavor going by a McDonalds in LA
  14. It's been done... I think one of those SRBs should be a Crayola
  15. Dragon 1 does not have SuperDracos, and yeah, what else would they use the Draco’s for?
  16. The world produces plenty of food, the problem is getting it to where it is needed. I’d fund a program run by logistics and distribution experts to collect excess and unsellable (but still edible) food and redistribute it to where it’s needed. Bulk staples could be shipped overseas, while supermarket “waste” would go to soup kitchens. Inspired by my brother-in-law, a sformer chef who now works in a soup kitchen at a homeless shelter, turning donated produce into healthy soups, stews and other good stuff instead of letting it all go to garbage/compost. I’d also start a program trying to shift ranchers from raising cattle to raising free-range chickens, or even crickets! As for dropping money from a helicopter over slums, that would probably start / escalate a gang war.
  17. Off to acting school with you! In Winnipeg. In winter.
  18. Yup. Block all the sunlight and let Venus cool down. Eventually all that atmosphere will condense out. The bigger problem with Venus is the rotation rate. It needs a few grazing asteroid impacts to spin it up. Now how many would that take?
  19. “Yeah, ok, I drilled a hole in the wrong spot. It’s not like when I hammered the accelerometers in upside down....”
  20. Well, if you bought too many gaming PC's, send one my way
  21. Ok, so I have this LED cooling pad I've been using for awhile, but it seems to have died, apparently at the little PCB holding the light switch and speed dial. I see a two-wire connector connected to the USB power cord, one black one grey. There's a three-wire connector leading into the pad (which has a fan and LED lights, explaining the three wires), two black and one with grey printing on it. I assume that I can just connect the grey to grey wires and the black to the two black wires, bypassing the light button and fan speed dial. It'll just be always on when I plug it in, right? Should be all there is to it, no?
  22. It might depend on which pod the pilot is seated in, if that seat gives him the ability to control probe cores once out of comm range. Just a thought, could easily be wrong
