VH...S? How quaint!

I had to look to remember why I called my save:”Career of Careers” Original, I know. I think this is the longest I’ve run a career, in terms of the RW calendar and hours played. It’s also the first time I haven’t started a new career with a major release, instead I’ve updated it since 1.3.1, to 1.4.3MH and now 1.4.5. In this save I’m determined to return a Kerbal from the surface of every body with a surface, something I haven’t done since 0.24 or so. It took a lot of MB testing, but my Kemini Eve Return Vehicle is on its way to the purple planet. The game calendar sits at around year 12 or so. I run KAC of course, so the KERV will have to wait its turn while I plant flags in the Joolian system. But I digress... Happy Landings!

With modern 1TB+ HDDs, I usually partition it so one third is for OS type stuff, and the other two thirds is “deep storage”. Then when I need to nuke Windows, only the one partition gets nuked. Yeah, I know, probably too late to be useful info this time...

Elon likes to buck the trends, so who says it has to be an island volcano lair? Maybe he’s building it in Mt Rainier

Typical click bait sensationalist headline. I read the article; at least they had the facts rights -
So that’s his evil plan. Did he build that in his volcano lair?

"Defragging the hard drive..." I believe sleep is when the short-term memory cache is dumped/flashed/shipped/encoded into long-term memory. Kind of hard to do that when new input is still happening, perhaps.

More to the point, reliable. Very few potential failure points -
So wait, you're from that island with the crazy beach at the end of the runway? Sweet! I'd be hanging out at that beach all the time!

Why Fluorine Never made it as rocket fuel
StrandedonEarth replied to RuBisCO's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Near the end of Ignition it is mentioned that a tri-propellant mixture of fluorine, lithium, and hydrogen was tested to an ISP of 542s, with a relatively low chamber temperature. The author opined that it would eventually see use as a space stage, especially useful around Jupiter. I’m going to guess that the handling issues and complex plumbing (among other things) discouraged anyone from trying to develop a flight unit... -
That's by design. As soon as anyone starts to understand how females tick, the OS updates itself and the rules change. Actually understanding them is against the rules of the universe and must not be allowed to happen. The only time comprehension is possible is when the male is too old to do anything with it. But any attempt to transmit such wisdom to younger men is inevitably garbled.

Also known as "undo" There have been times I want to use esc to cancel something, but it's not set up for that. Now I can't quite remember what I wanted to cancel... -

Double Docking
StrandedonEarth replied to MisterKerman's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I know I've done it pre-1.0, I think around 0.24 or so. But the alignment has to be perfect for it to work, which is why I used NavyFish docking alignment indicator when I did it. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
StrandedonEarth replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
True. They will use what’s most effective from what’s available, and try to make it (or something else) better. Warfare has always been the biggest driver of technology. That’s what the first jet engines were used for. Which goes back to the question of why hyperdrive weapons were not a thing in Star Wars until TLJ. Sorta seems like a no-brainer. I suppose it goes back to being expensive and needing a lot of mass. Makes you wonder what a Mon Cal cruiser could have done against the Death Star as a hyperweapon. Way more expensive than proton torpedoes though. I guess that answers that. -
How about Kodiak / the Aleutians? I believe there is already a facility up there...

Replace everything above S2 with a slightly lighter warhead. Saturn V only needed the first two stages to lift Skylab, and only a shortish burn of S3 to circularize for the lunar stack...
