Where Is Multiplayer?
StrandedonEarth replied to PalmettoSC's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
All suggestions for multiplayer in KSP make things unnecessarily complicated. Squad has bigger krakens to fry than try to shoehorn MP into the stock game, for the small fraction of players that are clamoring asking for it, and then deal with the players screaming about the bugs in MP or introduced by MP. As I posted above, MP in a different Kerbal game is another story, but my opinion on MP in the current KSP is...- 58 replies

Should the notification sound be brought back?
StrandedonEarth replied to Chel's topic in Kerbal Network
Yeah, I liked having the sound, it let me do my "Pavlov's dog" imitation of checking the forum every time I heard that sound... -
Which is why that segment usually burns out first...

Then perhaps you should have rated the spaceship above, and/or posted a spaceship of your own choosing...

I have to leave the tropical Mayan Riviera today, and fly back to the temperate Fraser Valley. The end of a great vacation. Ah well, the dog will be happy to see us back

Hmm, an interesting thought experiment to be sure. I agree leaving some sort of monumental representation of the entire solar system (including the non-naked-eye bodies and the latest discoveries like Sedna) would be the best way to confound future archaeologists. But for my personal legacy to bootstrap up the current technology, I have to ask: what would we be allowed to bring back? Would I be allowed to bring back a tablet computer full of technological steps in schematic form? Because that’s what I would want to take back to the Bronze Age, and start with building a small-scale hydroelectric generator to keep it charged. From there I would try to fork technology development into metallurgy and power generation: Wind being easier and solar when materials catch up (although solar-thermal would be easier than photovoltaic). Along with glass and other requirements for light bulbs So yes, my legacy, aside from astronomical monuments, would be a quick development of electrical tech, enabling independent research late into the night How long could a tablet computer be expected to last, assuming a constant power supply? Ancient Egypt in the Bronze Age is near to the petroleum deposits to of Arabia. How long to get a plastics industry going, assuming the how to is on the tablet?

Would polluting other planets be unethical?
StrandedonEarth replied to Nightside's topic in Science & Spaceflight
ALL THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS – EXCEPT EUROPA.ATTEMPT NO LANDINGS THERE. Unique places or features should be left alone, such as Ceres or Olympus Mons (basically a national park in Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson) -

Where Is Multiplayer?
StrandedonEarth replied to PalmettoSC's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
We don’t know what else T 2 has planned for the Kerbal Franchise. Squad is still responsible for developing KSP, but for all we know (pure speculation) T2 could already have a top-secret effort by another studio going to develop Kerbal Flight Simulator or Kerbal Kombat Simulator (complete with multiplayer), that will be sprung on an unsuspecting public when it hits beta or goes gold (end pure speculation). There are many good reasons in this thread (and others) that could explain why Squad doesn’t seem to want to touch it. On top of that it would be extremely difficult to pull off. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of players that want it, and then it’s for different reasons. To me, most uses listed here for multiplayer would be plagued by boredom or timewarp issues. I will admit building and deploying my own Kerbal Kombat Kreations for both ground and air does intrigue me, but I believe that would be better done with a separate game focused on “near”-surface air-air and air-ground combat in a closed arena. I would posit that leaving the arena amounts to fleeing combat and forfeiting- 58 replies

Doomed to failure
StrandedonEarth replied to mystifeid's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Just spitballing here, I haven’t tried anything like this: can it be snagged with a KIS/KAS harpoon, grappling hook, or electromagnet, attaches to a winch? Not sure if there is a weight/mass limit involved there Or land a squat (hill-stable) lander downhill from it, so the lander blocks it from rolling too far? With a Klaw facing it so it rolls right into your grasp? Hmm, that would be unbalanced. If you can block it with the lander, two kerbals should be able to KAS it to the top of your lander -
My glasss is empty and so is the minibar. While I have two sheets to the wind I’m not at the full three sheets. Can i complain about that? oh, and the lens on my camera fogs up as soon as I take it outside, and I have to wait until it unfogs until I can take a pic of the byooo-tiful moon. I’m definitely complaining about that

how can I make a shipwreck?
StrandedonEarth replied to EndTraveler's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There was a mod, don’t recall the name (Kerbal Krash System?) that added dents and stuff as things got banged up. Not sure what the most recent version is compatible with. Alternately, you could use KAS to detach and drop a few parts around the derelict. I assume it would be something landed or tipped over on its side. And I suppose there’s Whack-a-Kerbal to knock or blow parts off -
But there does appear to be a slight upwards vector to the thrust, so the major stressor is from trying not to be driven into the ground

I can complain about the six hour plain ride, half an hour waiting for the hotel bus, the 90+ minutes bus ride, and hunting for the free wifi spot at the hotel. But now I’m in Tulum stuffing my face at a free buffet and drinking free booze, and I can’t complain about that!
-
Now I have to go wade through airport crap and sit in a metal tube for 6 hours on my way to Mexico. Er wait, why am I complaining again?
-
Heading to the airport soon to fly Vancouver to Cancun. That BFS P2P would be nice about now, although my wife would probably disagree...

Makes sense, good point.
