What was the best explosion that you ever encountered?
StrandedonEarth replied to 322997am's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My brothers and I got that effect on a smaller scale at home. We were making lots of homemade French fries in a big pot of hot pork lard (mom had bought half a pig, butchered) with a wire basket. We had the chopped potatoes in a sinkful of water to prevent them from being discoloured. If we didn’t shake enough water off the spuds before we put the basket in the lard, the boiling water aerosolized some fat, and when the droplets hit the burner.... Fwoooosh! That happened a few times that day. Luckily nothing else caught fire. -
Yup. If at first you don't succeed, reboot. BTW, a tip I just learned on this form, ctrl-shift-esc goes straight to task manager.

Only under gaming loads, feeling hot? Check the temps, blow dust out of the vents?

Looks good, hope the actual movie is as good as the trailer looks, despite the rumors to the contrary...

No idea why this is stuck in my head.... *whistles innocently* -
What do ya do with a Drunken Sailor?
StrandedonEarth replied to Kernel Kraken's topic in Forum Games!
Of course, the correct answer is: Put him in the longboat ‘til he’s sober... ( repeat twice more) Early in the morning -
totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
StrandedonEarth replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
So, exactly what everyone was saying immediately after the launch... Northrop will say it was because it was an unfamiliar-to-them SpaceX adapter they were modifying, instead of the ULA adapters they were used to... -
Nope, no Lego here.... Not mine, it all was given to my sons over a few years worth of birthdays and Christmases. But when I was on holidays after Christmas '16, it was all in pieces in buckets. I was tasked by my wife to put it all back together. It took a few weeks of sorting and downloading manuals, but I managed to get most of the kits back together. Since then, it's been put on that bookcase and the kids are only allowed to play with them briefly before they have to put them back again, or else they would have been reduced to molecules again. I would really like to get a full-size X-Wing, but I don't want to pay $80 for it. That's what I don't like about Lego, because it's so bloody expensive. Of course, the SSD, Millenium Falcon, and Death Star would be nice to have too, but I have better things to spend hundreds of kerfunds on.

What do ya do with a drunken sailor? Introduce him to Tintin, of course! (and then take him to get another tattoo) -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
StrandedonEarth replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Or just transporter them out to deep space. Or just seal that area and vent to space. -
Oh, hey, that's one of those rare moments when you actually should use 'whom.' Feel free to complain about me nitpicking / grammar policing. I actually consider it a PSA. But I digress. Sounds like your trip was amongst typical BC Lower Mainland drivers, where turn signals seem to be expensive options that nobody cares to have installed on their cars. Or they all ran out of blinker fluid...

My complaint is that my 4-month-old, 50lb Mountain Labernese puppy just came charging into the living room chasing the cat. While the cat dodged behind the couch, Oreo took the straight line approach and jumped up on me while I was sitting on the couch browsing this very thread, knocking my morning cuppa coffee all over me and the couch! @adsii1970: I very much enjoyed reading about the hijinks of your students several pages back.

It’s only 17 months old though. 252. Nitpicking 253. Correcting the mods

As a kid I was more interested in space and not necessarily science fiction (unless it had to do with space). I certainly remember Space 1999 though, but I was quite young then and wasn't able to watch enough of it, and later it was a bit too hokey looking. But I was certainly hooked on the original BattleStar Galactica, with a big crush on Athena: Probably the reason I never found other SFey shows was that we were in an area without cable TV, so our choices were very limited. By the time Transformers was available to me I was "too old" for that kinda thing, and would rather fire up the Colecovision.

I was raised on Looney tunes, Merrie Melodies, Tom & Jerry, Popeye, Scooby-doo, Flintstones, and such. Sometimes if I was at my cousin's I could watch things like Rocket Robin Hood or Justice League (was that the name?). I never watched the more "modern" cartoons like He-Man, Transformers, or GI Joe. So no, I don't like anime, mainly because I find the animation to be too, um, minimal, with hardly any moving elements (generally a mouth that alternates between open and closed, or a switch to another static facial expression, while the camera zooms in or out, and that's it).

StrandedonEarth replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
Since a rather familiar cockroach (Ralph? Is that you, Ralph?) appeared in the Google Picture War thread, I’ve had the theme from Joe’s Apartment stuck on my head. Hilarious movie! -

Virgin Galactic, Branson's space venture
StrandedonEarth replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
That is a great thing to see. I hope testing continues to go well and they can get into commercial operations in due course.- 642 replies
