Orbital Megastructures
Soda Popinski replied to AmericanRocketryRambler's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
While I agree it would be outside the scope of the game, I see perfectly legitimate reasons to build moon sized space stations. For example, you decide to dissolve the Imperial Senate and need to maintain control of the systems with fear. A moon sized battle station armed with a super laser really fits that bill. -
Maybe by the time it's out, I'll have reached Duna in my current Career save game, which I started when they announced KSP2. I can appreciate slow and steady.

I promised to get Part 5 up in a couple of weeks a couple of months ago... Check out the earlier episodes in this Mission Report/Cinematic/Comedy in the Project Overkill playlist. No cheats in the gameplay part, some in the cutscenes, and plenty of Quick Saves. This rescue mission came about due to poor planning in my attempt at doing a Jool Grand Tour. If you just want to see the money shot, here's a summary and GIF.

Sorry, these take some time to edit. Here's Part 5.

KSP is the only non-VR game I still play on PC. For the record, I'm now playing with the Oculus Quest 2, upgraded from first generation 2016 VR. So the 3-4x increase in resolution is quite an improvement. The Quest 2 costs $300, and you can use it either as a stand alone system, which I've barely done since my 2014 CPU / 2016 GPU (970) can still handle VR better than the mobile chip in the Quest 2. I got a generic USB cable for $25 to connect, and it works fine, but I ended up spending $20 on Virtual Desktop to connect wirelessly instead. You need to have a good WiFi router (WiFI 6 is recommended). There's a little bit more lag, which may be a problem if you're a Beat Saber Expert+ fiend, but I find it quite OK in the PC VR games I've played so far*. I prefer "supervising" my KSP gameplay more than actually flying by the seat of my pants, so I'm not super interested in IVA. Maybe if they really spiff up the stock cockpits, I'll give it a go. For now, if I want to fly in space, I fire up "Elite: Dangerous" or lately, "Star Wars: Squadrons" - so immersive and breathtaking in VR. Like several people have mentioned, I'm most interested in VAB / SPH in VR. I find it very frustrating assembling a 3D craft with 2D tools. Maybe I should invest in a 3D mouse. I did try that janky KSP VR mod and was impressed seeing my rocket at full scale in the VAB, but you couldn't actually manipulate the thing. * Thrill of the Fight (boxing), Elite: Dangerous, Star Wars: Squadrons, Skyrim VR, Lone Echo all work fine, but Half-Life Alyx has a weird voice sync bug for me when playing wirelessly.

[Minimum KSP version - 1.11] Kerbal Attachment System (KAS) v1.12

I'm having similar problems. According to this post, auto struts may be the cause. -
Isn't Duna already red colored?

Just time-warp ahead. Easy-peasy.
-
Pretty sure that's the Roger Rabbit. Source: I'm old. And this.
-
I'm guessing at least one of them is a habitat. Kerbals gotta live somewhere. I've seen a kerbal doing the Roger Rabbit*. Thanks for that. *The lack of backward motion confused me at first, thinking it may have been the Running Man. Jeez, I'm old.

Mars Rover Perseverance Discussion Thread

Just to clarify on the point, helicopters, unlike typical drones, can change the pitch on the rotor blades along the rotational path. This allows differential lift across the area covered by the rotor to control pitch and roll. NASA just mentioned they hope to fly Ingenuity within 50 to 90 days (or was it sols) of landing. Congrats on NASA, JPL and ULA for a successful launch. Can't wait to see version 2 of "7 Minutes of Terror" with GoPros all over the thing. -
Explodium is perfect. Maybe down the tech tree, it can even be synthesized. I hear synthetic explodium burns cleaner!

My main point was time-warp shouldn't change the positions of the planets with respect to time. So to clarify, SpaceFace stated KSP2 takes place 200 years in the future, which I took to mean 200 years in the future of KSP1 (which was a wrong assumption). I mentioned, one could use planetary orbit and positions from KSP1 set to year 200 to see if it matched up with KSP2's planetary positions, which would of course require the devs actively do the calculations and set the game up this way, which I doubt (as you'll probably start at Tier 0). At which point, you stated that Time Warp would screw up planetary positions and that time is arbitrary in KSP. I disagree with both those points.

I believe that was the estimate from the original Alcubierre paper. Subsequent refinements got the amount to merely the mass of Jupiter, then to about 700 kg. Though, I believe those newer numbers came from NASA's Harold White, who was also studying the "EM Drive" seriously.

They did Edge of Tomorrow / Live Die Repeat. I'd love to see that sequel set in space. How many ways can Tom Cruise hilariously die in a vacuum? -
While I agree with SciMan this would be unnecessary, game play wise, I just wanted to note Space X uses compressed nitrogen for RCS on the Falcon. The so-called "cold gas thrusters," which will also make it into the Tesla Roadster Space X package. Terrible ISP, but you can compress it using electric power.

Except it's not. At time = 0 seconds, every KSP game has the planets in the exact same position. Each planet is on rails, and has a specific orbital period. At time = 1,000,000 seconds, every stock Kerbol system will have their planets in the same place. This is why when you use Alex Moon's Launch Window Planner, you need to put in the current date of the game, so it knows when the next window will be. To be clear, when I'm talking about 200 years in the future, I don't mean 200 years from our future, but 200 years in Kerbin's future.
-
But aren't the planets on rails, and not subject to the physics calculations? Wouldn't that invalidate Alex Moon's Launch Window planner? Even if that were the case, just get the phase angles at time 0 for each game, and compare. Easy enough in KSP1 using kOS.
-
I suppose one could use the positions of the planets to determine when KSP2 occurs based on the KSP1 calendar.

It's KerikBalm code for Metallic Hydrogen. [snip]
