simplest rapier ssto ever..., but efficient as hell!
ill update name, partcount, craft file, etc soon
only mod needed: procedural dynamics. everything else is stock.
(thanks zorke)

yeeeeeeah, and it's suposed to be landed
-
Hey fluffysnowcap, check this plane out
I couldnt land because i had Angle of attack assist enabled in FAR, but it's doable
-
I've reached mach 1.9, but cant turn back and land
-
hahaha poor Hudfred
I dont think you can glide with that plane back to the runway
-
well, that's not "cheating", but somehow it is!, i'll add you in the FAR list, really fast ^^
-
Yes dinosaurJR with the laws of "Physics" there is one right answer and for FAR that right answer is a lot simpler game after all and uniform air wish we had that is RL and i feal that you have got my covered the bit i brought to attenuation so much more elegantly that i woud or been able to and got the hole issue i feal but i am preoccupied trying to get in to the 1000M/s club and it is hard with the loss of dynamic warp i have to use a tweaked version of mechjeb just not to spin out and crash at thows speeds
:note:
will be posting some crashes soon to give me a brake from trying
here is some of the problems i had
As i said in the youtube comment, that's a rly fast plane, but i would love to see you land that thing , remember, no cheats, that includes clipping (i've clarified that in the rules), (would love if you could change your plane w/o clipping, much more realistic )
BTW, atm there is not a valid entry, keep testing, I'm rly looking forward your planes!
-
As far as I know (not much), you need low mass and good aerodynamics. Ill make a 2 leaderboards with FAR and w/o it ^^
-
From what I got of his posts, there are not only plugin considerations to straighten out, but he's also got some additional parts in the works as well. Just be patient. In the meantime, circle back a few pages in this thread and check out the fixes others have posted. They do work, I can definitely attest to that.
BEAUTIFUL spaceplane you got there sir, nice concept!
The more time we spend waiting, the more eager we get and fun we have! (anyway, I wont me able to keep myself much longer )

-
yeah, you would die landing from height of 5 meters if your horizontal speed is 2km/s. Need more data
-
CONCEPT:
Make the fastest plane you can at sea level (under 1.000m), that takes off from the runway.
RULES:
-Using stock parts, B9 aerospace, procedural dynamics and FAR (I dont think it's possible without FAR). [any other mod suggestions are ok, as long as their parts are not overpowered]
-As I said, take off from the runway (VTOL ALLOWED)
-You can't go over 1.000 meters at any time during the flight (it's not valid to dive from high altitude, you must reach the speed with the only help of your engine and without going over 1.000m)
-Only atmospheric engines (SABRE and RAPIER engines are alowed running in atmospheric mode)
-no cheats (infinite fuel, etc) -> includes no crazy clipping of any kind!!!!!
-NEW RULE Must have atleast 2 wings (dont care if they are small, control surfaces, or so)
-Plane has to be able to go back and land in the runway (any of them) [if you overstep a little is ok, showing enough proof that the plane can, is enough]
-NEW RULE landing has to be horizontaly, not VTOL landing allowed*
-NEW RULE as fairings seems to kill a lot of drag, it will be noted in the leaderboard so everyone can see it. (as these planes usually go all covered in fire, tell me when you use fairings in case I miss it!)
-NEW RULETake off can be vertical or horizontal, but you cant use mounts. (It's a plane challenge!)
* This rule is made to avoid rocketized airplanes. The main goal of this challenge, is to see how fast a plane can go using atmospheric engines, if you, engineers, dont have to think about landing, you dont need to be able to glide anymore, and therefore, it stops being a plane. VTOL take off is ok, since taking off is not hard, normaly, and wont make any vicious loopholes. Im sorry for adding this extra rule, it only affects one participant atm
PROOF:
-Picture of the plane at top speed (showing resources)
-Picture of the mission report (showing you didnt go over 1.000m)
-(optional) A video of your magnificent plane showing speed

Let's see how fast we can go!
EXAMPLE:
Here is my OP booster, I went over mach 1.5 and was able to land back. (In the video i also went over 1.000m, but the speed was reached before going over that altitude). It's a video from KSP 0.22, using FAR 0.10, Ill try to update my plane when B9 aerospace is updated to 0.23
Cheers!, I hope people likes the challenge, Didn't see any recent challenge with this rules (most of them are higher speed but not under certaint altitude)
-
I come here few times a day to check if it has been updated. Even though you can play it with those updated dlls, Im still waiting, seems like it doesn't work for so many people...!
Also, if it was stable just by changing some dlls, bac9 could have made a quick update for everyone, instead of keep working on the next release ^^
The wait is getting hard
you rock bac9
-
I haven't played Kerbal since 0.23 hits, because I'm waiting for this mod!
As other said, quality takes time
-
bajo mi humilde opinión, deja los nombres propios originales. prefiero que sea el Goo y Mun ^^

1st: My first attempt was to lower the angle of the control surface from 15 to 5. This way, the rolling stoped being noticeable, but was still occurring. The problem was, that the plane lost most of its acrobatics capabilities.
2nd: Tryed to change the angle from 15 to 7. Rolling was again noticeable, and the plane was not flying smooth enough.
3rd: Keeping the angle on 7º, I set some struts. Definetly, they helped increasing the critical speed when the plane starts to roll under SAS control. Plane was way more stable and his turning capabilities were very good.
4th: 2 different control surfaces for pitch and roll on the same wing. Keeping struts. Both control surfaces set at 15º. HEAVY rolling again.
5th: Keeping struts, I lowered roll CS down to 5º. Stoped from uncontrolled rolling under SAS, but crazy pitch stuff happent.
6th: Lowering pitch to 10º: FINALLY, it works good enough.
Total adjustments: two pairs of struts above and under the tip of the wings, 2 different control surfaces, roll surfaces down to 5º and pitch surfaces down to 10º.
Final test + some stunts here! (dont miss the end, the plane is capable of getting away of a very bad situation)
Thanks again!
-
Thank you both!, I'll try to change the wings for a smaller ones, then I'll post the result! ^^
-
The tittle says everything. I have this small, simple plane, using B9 parts and having FAR installed. I was trying to make a highly maneuver plane. Although it looks stable in the VAB, and behaves good while flying, whenever i turn SAS on, it starts to roll uncontrollable.
Any idea of what could make this happen?
I made a quick video showing the plane and the problem:
Thanks in advance!

very interesting!
