  1. Team red. I'm still using my old-ish 512 MB ATI Radeon HD 4770 (which is ~6 years old). It has proven itself worthy in AutoCAD, Photoshop, and PC games. It's still far enough for most tasks, although it won't run recent games on max graphics (of course). I intend to use it for 1-2 more months, then I'll possibly buy a budget laptop with a yet unknown dedicated video card/"top-end" integrated GPU. I don't think there is a "best brand" in the GPU industry. When I assembled my computer, the HD 4770 was the best choice (performance/price-wise).
  2. Our first "real" personal computer was a Commodore 64 in 1986. It costed a fortune to buy one here. Before 1986 when Cocom control lists were still very strict, Western companies couldn't export hi-tech goods beyond the Iron Curtain. Some eastern bloc countries (like the USSR and East Germany) could design some PCs on their own, but they were nowhere as good as their Western counterparts. Most of the Eastern computers were the reverse engineered replicas of popular Western ones. Even Hungary produced some, most of them were based on the Z80 proccessor. Our very first computer was a Videoton TVC, but it was barely a personal computer. It costed 16000 forints (the monthly medium wage was ~3000 forints that time). In 1996 we were one of the first families (not companies) having dial-up Internet (in Hungary, ofc).
  3. I have been thinking of a "very mobile" (~13 inch) notebook or a 2in1 too lately since I'm a student riding the bike to the university on daily basis (therefore can't afford a 15+ inch device). Too bad I couldn't find a good one, and I can tell you why: mobility + hardware costs a lot together. Basically this simple rule applies: -Mobility -Performance -Low price You can pick only two. Btw the i3 isn't a bad proccessor, better ones can outrival some i5 models (of the same generation). I used an i3 laptop for light AutoCAD work, and it was decent. It's not that bad for gaming either. Again, better models are capable of running MC on medium to high settings (provided that there are enough RAM and GPU performance). They are a huge leap from the pentium family. Apart of much better energy efficiency (=added mobility), the i3 sports features like hyper threading which the pentium lacks. It's pretty useful when it comes to multitasking. Also, the i3 series usually have better integrated GPUs.
  4. Exactly my thoughts, but I also usually think of several-metre-long seaweed tickling (or grabbing ) my feet while swimming in deep water, which is pretty uncomfortable. :S I also fear of a new cold war, and possibly a new war in Europe. My country (Hungary) lies right in the buffer zone between West (U.S. & Allies) and East (Russia & its sphere of influence) just next to Ukraine. This location always divided two opposing cultures, great powers or alliances (Western Europe vs nomadic tribes, Western Europe vs the Ottoman Empire, Germany vs Russia, NATO vs Warsaw Pact), resulting in numerous devastating armed conflicts. Nowadays tensions are rising again, and neither side does anything to solve the situation. Another thing I fear of is an illness which would suddenly kill me or disable me in some way (like losing my eyesight).
  5. I use the Gillette Mach 3, and I'm perfectly satisfied. I've tried electric shavers, but I don't like them cause some parts on the head and neck are pain to reach with those bulky machines.
  6. I have an older 512MB ATI (pre-AMD) card and I'm satisfied with it. I think this question is similar to the Galaxy vs iPhone, Canon vs Nikon and Ferrari vs Lamborghini arguments... Both GPU brands have very good and crap*y models. I heard that NVidia has better support for older cards than AMD. I had to tinker a lot with the drivers in order to make my 6 years old ATI card work with Windows 8.1.
Persze megértem a fejlesztőket. A szimulátorokra nem gerjed a jónép, tökéletes példa erre például a Microsoft Flight, ami egy nagyon béna arcade próbálkozás volt a jól ismert Flight Simulator X után. Megpróbáltak a "profi" szimulátorból Call of Duty/Need for Speed szintű mainstream játékot csinálni. Nem sikerült. Remélem, hogy a KSP nem lesz ilyen.
  9. Helló! Elég inaktív vagyok mostanság, de lassan végzek a vizsgáimmal, és több idÅ‘m lesz a KSP-re. Mi a véleményetek a 0.90-rÅ‘l?
  10. One more from me: The 80 cm Schwerer Gustav (also known as Dora, cause 2 were built), produced in WWII Germany. It used 2 parallel train tracks for movement (it had 40 axles). It had a 30+ metre-long barrel which fired 7-ton shells. Although it was a masterpiece of engineering, it's practical use was questionable. It took ~3000 men to lay tracks, set up, fire and defend it from enemy air attacks. Bombers were more effective and accurate. Here is the gun: And its projectile, which could weigh up to 7,1 tons. There was a third "supergun" in production, a 52 cm cannon equipped with a 43 m barrel (thus having a range of 190 km!), which would fire 680 kg shells, but the factory in Essen was destroyed by a RAF air raid.
  11. Missile trains are going to be deployed across Russia again (TASS).
  12. Propeller-driven train? How about jet-powered railcars?
  13. www.kerbay.com - where you can buy all kinds of rocket parts found lying by the side of the road. www.xkraken.com - it's about teh Kraken, I guess
  14. Nice idea! I love classical music, "despite" being 19 years old. My two favourite pieces are the following (won't embed them, cause they would take up too much space imo): , which is usually played before the anthem in the first minute of the new year.I used to learn music (mostly piano) for ~10 years. I think classical music gives much more delight than 10 minutes of monotone "WUBWUB" dubstep construction noise "music".
  15. Nice thread, it's good to see that so many ship enthusiasts are amoung us. My favourite ship is SMS Szent István, the only dreadnought built in Hungary. She served in the KuK (Austro-Hungarian) Navy in the WWI. She sank after a hit by a torpedo launched by an Italian MAS in 1918. Her fate was captured on film ( ). As other ships in her class, she had very powerful armament at the price of her center of mass being way too high, which increased the risk of capsizing.
  16. I have to say, these are the best truck replicas I've ever seen! They seem so lightweight, there aren't 1289312 parts sticking out everywhere. Despite the low part count, they are really accurate, well done!
  17. I doubt it would run on my Huawei Brik$h@t, but i'll give it a try, as it's really promising.
  18. Apart from PC stuff: amateur photography, train and planespotting, building model planes, hanging out with friends, and rowing. Btw, this is what I shot yesterday, the so-called "tram of light" in Budapest:
  19. Oh, I've seen this photo before! This was taken in March 1944, during the Operation Margarethe, a.k.a the German invasion of Hungary. It can be seen in most of our history books.
  20. My favourite WWII fighter is the one my granddad achieved 7 air victories with (3 IL-2s, one Yak-1, one MiG-3, and two unknown aircraft): The Messerschmitt BF-109 (in Hungarian livery in the picture): The manufacturer "Messerschmitt" is spelt wrong. My favourite airliners are the A330, B777, MD-11 and the Tu-154 (it'd be difficult to choose just one ).
  21. I use a weapon mod (forgot its name, sorry), which adds machine guns, numerous rockets and bombs to the game. If I fire a fast salvo of rockets at the VAB, it explodes, but if I fire the same amount of rockets at a slower rate, it won't get destroyed. Interesting.
  22. I don't think the poor RAM is the main problem. I have only 2 gigs of RAM, yet I can fly 500-part ships @ 50 fps at full settings (my resolution is 1600*900). It's the CPU and the graphics card in this case. As others said: Nice design / Performance / Low price. Pick two. Btw, if you don't like the look of a normal desktop PC, you could build/modify your desk to hide it. You can save a lot of $$$ by doing that (my personal experience).
  23. I love FSX. The range of free addons for it is unbeatable. You can download like 95% of all aircraft of all airlines (or air forces). You can also get custom sceneries to modify airports and cities to have an even more realistic simulation. This game will always stay on my HDD. If I want some action, then I grab the good old IL-2 1946, and hunt some B-17s and Mustangs with my BF-109 to defend my homeland (this is one of the few games which doesn't only include the major nations of the WWII, but a lot more). This game offers various missions, like intercepting a V-1 flying bomb, or ground attack missions. And you can also adjust the level of realism, from a relatively arcade gameplay to a very professional simulation. And by simulation, I mean perfect cockpit views, damaged aircraft parts, leaking fuel, bullet ballistics, carrier landings, etc. Also, the game includes an easy-to-use mission designer, which is very handy.
  24. I study transportation engineering. I would like to get a bachelor's degree in air transportation, then go for the master's degree if everything goes fine.
