Ever used SCANSat? It's an awesome mod, and it gathers science as it maps the body. It has off-ship scanning, so you can have a constellation scanning a planet efficiently, or many planets simultaneously, and science gain is gradual over the percentage scanned. It's not science over time, but rather over space. I dig the idea of science over time too, but you could get some programming inspiration from SCANSat. Plus, I think your Van Allen Belt probes work better with this paradigm (the other experiments would work over time fine). -edit: link http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/80369-0-23-5-SCANsat-v6-0-Real-Scanning-Real-Science-at-Warp-Speed!-May-17

[PLUGIN+PARTS][0.23] SCANsat terrain mapping
monstah replied to damny's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
With a steady framerate thanks to 0.23.5 optimizations, and SCANsat integrated with toolbar, I dare say my Kerbal experience has achieved perfection. Thank you, thank you. Thank you. -
[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)
monstah replied to cybutek's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
How many of you guy use the KER parts, and how many use ModuleManager to just add it to all command pods? Personally, I do the second. Hell, I don't even install the parts so as not to use up space on my VAB. Maybe i'm minority, but I suppose the plugin doesn't really need parts, just the module? But then I have to say I find the modelling on the Flight Engineer really cute. Could be re-used as a scientific experiment, maybe? -

Kinda late reply, but count me in, too. Also, wouldn't mind breaking compatibility if it means a better mod. -

I'm happy with this mod, and don't play KSP without it. Whatever Cilph chooses is good for me, even though I like "Active Vessel" the way it is. I don't understand how the groups will achieve the same functionality, but when I get my hands on it I'll probably figure it out. I just have to ask, apart from manned command stations in nearby orbit, how do you deal with landing unmanned probes? Do you do it manually, by setting various nodes, by using surface retrogade and calculating dt and dv...? My most almost-successful automated landing on Minmus was using surface retrograde, but the dv exceeded the needed ammount by just a bit, causing the ship to tumble violently at the last moment. I'll try to send a kill rotation command just prior to ending the burn next time. Also, can you setup multiple nodes? The way I do with Alarm Clock is to add a new maneuver node alarm, delete the nearest node and add a new maneuver alarm. When I load the deleted node from Alarm Clock, the second node gets into the right position automatically. Not so with flight computer, the node seems to point in the direction relative to the orbit without the first maneuver. Then after executing the first node, the computer shuts off attitude control, instead of keeping pointed at the node. Currently I time a NODE command by hand just prior to the second execution, but it'd be nice if it reoriented itself for a second maneuver. -
Kerbal Space Program To Add NASA Asteroid Redirect Mission to Game
monstah replied to SQUAD's topic in KSP1 The Daily Kerbal
One question popped in my mind. I remember reading somewhere some nebulous time ago that the Dev considered that, in the finished game, we'd have to use telescopes to probe the planets from afar, and so we wouldn't be able to distinguish moons and surface details until we either built bigger telescopes or sent probes to fotograph from close. I had forgotten about this (and I may remember it somewhat wrongly), but the first stage of the asteroid mission reminds me of that description. Soo... is that coming along too? -

Yes, that's what I was hoping for. And.. that was my first post in the forum? So much for a first impression... -

Please tell me you're lip synching gibberish, not actual English!
