Kerbal job/rank in name

currently, it looks like the only places you see what job a Kerbal has is when moving them to the ship in the VAB or looking at them in the pilot lounge. When in flight and looking down at their windows in the lower right, you just have to remember which is pilot, etc.,. It would be nice if say their middle initial was there job, so a pilot would have P and Bob who in my current game would have an S for scientist (Bob S Kermen). Then add a number the end or R# for their rank (skill level). That makes it a lot easier to quickly glance and see who to send out on EVA for Science, or who to send over to repack the shutes or fix a flat.

Having their specialisation denoted by a middle initial in their full name is a little jarring; instead, there should be a separate field (or even a graphical icon) accompanying the Kerbal's name (e.g. Jebediah Kerman, Pilot or Jebediah Kerman [Pilot's wings symbol].

They already all have the same last name, so what would be wrong with their middle intl being their specialization? Maybe they earned it through schooling like "Dr."

I agree, their skill level should look more like a title then a military rank.

That's too Star Trek-y. The game is supposed to be inspired by real life spaceflight, and you never see astronauts in different colored space suits, except that for spacewalks one of the EMUs on Space Station has a few red stripes and the other doesn't.

Speaking of colored suits, Why are the first ~3 orange and the rest white?

In map mode, on the right of the screen is a button with a Kerbal face on it. Click on that and it gives you a crew manifest for your ship, with names, specialisations and level and where in your ship they are sitting.

I think a icon/symbol for each job on the portrai (the one from wich you choose IVA and EVA) would be very helpfull. So you do not need to click through some manifest, just to quickly see wich kerbal does what.

Perhaps a badge on the spacesuit torso or an insignia on the helmet could be used to signify different jobs? It'd be a nice way to tell what a given kerbalnaut's specialization is just by looking closely, and wouldn't make the spacesuits look significantly different.

Well, space programs have historically been linked to the military. Ranks like Commander exist, though in completely different uses.

Oh, and my Kerbals are chaotically invading space with giant weapons.
