Would like a few more runways.

Recommended Posts

I would prefer some kind of "recovery site" on sea, because most of early carrier rockets are going to be multistage.

We should have "srb splashdown" site with 100% refund. Of course we should be able to buy and set spot on our own and there could be some sea platform in place we set as "recovery site" ;)

I think this would be a great idea, and something to do with the extra money and rep you have once you start really getting a few bigger contracts knocked down. Just a couple different launch sites besides the KSC, and a few runways or landing sites would be nice. Of course you would have to build the new sites and level them up just like you do now with the KSC, but since it is just a runway or launch site, their costs would be relatively low, and could also make it that you cannot unlock the other launch sites and runways until once you hit a certain rep level.

I would also like to see this. They'd make good optional objectives for tourism missions - instead of recovering Joe Kerbal's vessel anywhere on Kerbin, you get paid extra if you land at the New Kerba City runway after reentry after your last task is completed (at which point Joe Kerbal is removed from the ship rather than waiting for the ship to be recovered).

I disagree with 100%. If you can get them to splash down without being destroyed, you currently get a high % recovery for SRBs from a normal KSC eastwards launch. Less than 100% is ok, as you wouldn't be just filling them back up with solid fuel and slapping them on a new rocket.

I do agree with adding other runways. Groom Lake would be my first choice, it just seems more fun and highly appropriate when we're dealing with little green men, but would also have a slightly challenging element if topography was similar to the real world, due to surrounding mountains. Vandenberg and Edwards are the other obvious cases, and it might be both interesting and useful to have Vandenberg's alternate launch site as well. Recovery % from these alternate sites would be much higher than landing on a random bit of grass a similar distance from KSC. It does make sense to me that they should be purchasable and upgradeable sites, similar to the KSC facilities upgrades system.

In terms of practical implementation, it's probably much easier if they are fixed, pre-determined locations, rather than arbitrary user-chosen locations. I.e. a standard selection of sites that you can choose to purchase, eliminating the problems with trying to dynamically place a runway on any arbitrary bit of terrain.

This is section with suggestions for new features in stock game not mod advertising section ;)

BOOHOO!

Yukon is 100% correct mentioning Kerbinside as it does exactly what the OP asks for. You on the other hand are to some degree also correct. However .... you have been around long enough to know this gets suggested on a regular basis (often enough to result in a mod like Kerbinside) to such extent it has been placed on the What not to suggest list.

That doesn't mean it should be suggested. It is wrong approach, if someone is looking for mods he should ask in mod-section, but if you write here you want to extend stock game.

Posts suggesting mod in suggestion section should be treated as offtopic :)

Nope, you're wrong. Threads suggesting mods are off topic in this forum. Someone simply responding to a suggestion by making the OP aware of a mod that may satisfy their need or be of interest to them does not seem at all off topic to me, as it's relevant and helpful. Drawing someone's attention to the mod possibly gives them a solution today, rather than fairly far into the future, or even never in the stock game. There's so many mods out there, it's highly unreasonable to expect everyone to be aware of everything that's available.

Posts complaining about just mentioning mods, on the other hand, those truly are off topic!

The island one is a bit too close when you want to play round with extra large passenger jets.

Yes, please, I would love to see them too.

Moreover - I would like to see an option to start your game in other KSC, located in a different latitude. Something I mentioned in my post with a list of things I'd like to see to improve KSP.

False assumption that people posting in Suggestions forum are the same people that post in:

Said the guy who wrote a post complaining about complains. Now that's just silly.

You're completely misinterpreting what I wrote. I know that this thread was not suggesting a mod.

That has nothing to do with what I wrote, I made no such assumption. My point stands, that in a thread suggesting something for the stock game, it is not off topic to simply draw the OP's attention to an existing mod that is relevant. In discussion of a suggestion for the stock game, it can be useful and relevant to refer to existing mod functionality.

Said the guy who wrote a post complaining about complains. Now that's just silly.

And that's the point. I'm frankly quite fed up with people responding negatively to people for providing potentially helpful and relevant information. Informing someone that there's a mod which may be of interest and provide the suggested functionality in the short to medium term can be helpful. It can also be useful for fleshing out the suggestion, such as discussion about what a mod gets right vs. what it gets wrong, in the context of how a stock implementation should be done.

I personally would like additional runway AND launch pad facilities that offer completely different challenges:

-- different altitudes

-- surrounding area is not always water

-- not on the equator

I think the stock game needs this for polish. I like the island runway, but it is too close and similar to the KSC (close to equator, close to water, similar altitude).

There's a huge desert area on the planet. It would be a great place for huge, long runways that would provide a place for people to do the sort of stuff Edwards AFB has done. Flight test new aircraft, recover re-entering shuttles, and even launch a few spaceplanes like the X-15. Spaceship One flew out of the nearby Mojave Air and Space Port, as well.
