How to recognize the specialization of kerbal "out there"?

Recommended Posts

I have this orbital refuelling station, with three kerbals (recently four) who got there... not exactly intentionally. Their craft was found inadequate for the intended job, it was not built fit for reentry (they'd move to the return craft at the destination), generally their mission was cancelled and they sit on the space station awaiting reassignment. Recently there were four, but Bob Kerman was picked by a shuttle en route to a research station.

Now the remaining three are "grey suits", no wiki articles on them. And by now I have no clue what their specializations are. If there's a mission that needs extra crew, I have no clue how to find which ones would fit.

Is there any easy way to tell their specialization that doesn't require returning them to KSC first?

Go to the astronaut complex, you can see "available" and "assigned" kerbals here. You want to see the "assigned" tab.

Yeah when you control the craft they are all in you can go to the map screen. If you look on the right hand side there should be a few tabs if you click the one that looks like a kerbal you can see more information there .

Yes, that one's helpful-- it will not only show you which specialization they are, but also what level.

However, if you want to know their personality traits (courage/stupidity), AFAIK the only way to find that out is to go back to the astronaut complex at KSC and check it there. (This doesn't come up much in the stock game, since traits don't affect gameplay at all and generally people don't really care. However, some mods, such as Extraplanetary Launchpads, do care about that sort of thing, so it can come up.)

I'd like to see a MOD that overlays the crew specialization on their picture in flight mode, rather than having to flip to another screen.

Ask and you shall receive. It's called Portrait Stats. It shows their specialty, and their level overlaid on their pic. And if you hover, a popup shows up that tells you what their skills are.

Scroll down on this link as there are several mods here http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/120731-1-0-x-DMagic-s-Modlets-Latest-Update-Celestial-Body-Science-Editor-v5-0-7-11-2015
