Cuky Posted July 2, 2015 Share Posted July 2, 2015 I might provoke a few reactions but I'm thinkin the main reason we're seeing all sorts of bizarre "theories" that the human mind is prone to go at least partially psychotic while we all to often fail to realize or accept that. Some ideas are more outrageous than others but some of these wild ideas are not only accepted by many or just plain socially accepted but entire civilisations have these outlandish ideas as their cornerstones.Flat earth, hollow earth, angels, demons, moon is not real, Queen Eliabeth is a gecko, talking animals, aliens, I'm wondering if it's perhaps that we just can't help ourselves. We're humans with human brains and that brain is not perfect.I agree. But even more I think the problem lies in that we want the answers to our questions here and now, and sometimes even before we thought of the question. And most often than not those people who are impatient will take the first answer they receive as truth and everything else is false because the thought of not knowing or being wrong is just too hard to live with. Haven't read it in a long time but last I did there was some guy adamantly claiming that air does not exist because aether something, and another saying that it's impossible for a reaction engine to work in a vacuum. And a third one saying that gravity does not exist. Funny stuff =)Anyway, I think they were right on that it wouldn't be possible to see the curvature out of an airliner's window or a mountain top - you'd need to be further up. That way it'd be as entertaining, but also would be a good way for the rest of us to see that there's no real reason to choose a center of the Earth's surface, no real reason to draw the atlas with long. 0 at the center, no real reason to put North on the top of the maps. Pictures don't lie. :>Yeah but read the Flat Earth Societies web page, every photo that shows the earth is spherical is photoshopped I forgot some think (or claim to) that there is a dome of ice that covers earth and that the stars we see are actually tiny holes in the dome .......
