Well actually, we live in the future. It is true light takes some time to reach our eyes, but our brains process these signals differently. It trries not to understand what is happening 'now' (now being this moment minus the time light took to travel). Our brain actually tries to figure out what is going to happen. This makes it easier for us to anticipate certain situations.

We're talking two different things here. I'm referring to what the eyes/brain perceives on input. You're discussing post processing of that.

There is a good discussion to be had on whether that post processing creates the experience, and is thus defining (in at least some senses). The human perception is a wonderful thing, even if our brain fools us continously.

The point is that there is no coherent past. Your feet, brain and belly button all have a slightly different age, past and present in relation to each other. It is, in an overly concise sense, what relativity is. Time feels like a universally coherent thing, but in reality is rather personal and local.
