The "Kerbal Bomber"

Recommended Posts

Now, I study aviation, so i'm MUCH better at spaceplanes then i am rockets. but of course, when it comes to flying, i'm great, when it comes to building my OWN, well lets just say i don't know the word lift.

=----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------=

So I once tried making a spaceplane called the Kerbal bomber. It basicly had a layout like this front to back. Jetengine>fueltank>decoupler>landingcan>decoupler>cockpit

The plan for it was I would fly it to antarctica hoping to then over the arctic, decouple everything, Dropping the cockpit, lander can, and back in seprate pieces.

The front and back would serve as useless. although, there were parachutes on everything.

The lander can would drop with parachutes, and land and start a small colony.

So, since i couldn't make it, or even, Get off the runway for that matter, i wanted to see if someone could Scott Manley it.

For proof that you did it, take a screenshot of the lander can, and a screenshot of the plane in flight.

The rules are simple.

Don't go into space.

Use any mods nessacary that can help you "Drop the lander can"

The lander can must be dropped in a way like a bomb is

You can do it like:

The way I explained

out of a cargo bay

dropping it from the underside like a bomb with parachutes.

Best of luck!:D

Too easy I could build it in my sleep. And it would work perfectly too. When I wake up in front of my computer screen, cleanng the drool from my keyboard, I will have discovered a mass of junk assembled together that would not fly under the best of circumstances.

I added a cargo bay to my C-77 Continuity. I used it to complete a non-stop triple circumnavigation, so you should have plenty of fuel to fly it anywhere on Kerbin, drop the payload, and fly home.

[i already increased the brake torque in the .craft. It usually lands empty, but with the short trip it needed more stopping power to slow all that extra fuel down.]

Here is the .craft. It's all stock except for a mechjeb module. (It will fly perfectly fine without mechjeb)

This isn't what the OP was looking for and that's already been provided, but here's a similar concept that provides some food for thought:

The concept was to collect science from as many biomes as possible in a single trip and return it to KSC. I assembled and fueled it on the ramp because reasons. :D

Best,
