User interface, stability and graphics overall

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

So I, like you all, really enjoy this game, the idea behind it is awesome, the game is awesome. However, the potential of this game seems to me far from as good as it should be (even though, it is really good).

Although there are plans to improve the user interface, there wasn’t anything about assisting new players, which is in my opinion, the biggest issue on this game. I know there are dozens of tutorials but they required a lot of time to understand what to do, and how to do it right. I think that assisting a player with suggestions and mistakes of the player during the creation of a spacecraft would be a tremendous help and would bring new players. I've seen friends who really liked the idea behind the game, but once I've told them my experience about what I had to know to create a spacecraft, they stepped back. This is where the game could expand the game community and it doesn't as much as it could. For the current players, a situation which I believe it is common, it is when you build the spacecraft, you launch it, you're nearly doing the objective, but then you realized you made a mistake either by putting a piece in the wrong way, or because you forgot something... This shouldn't be happening and it happened to me quite a few times, and it could be fixed with the game assistance when building a spacecraft. Even if there are mods for that (which I admit I didn't look for it), I don't want to rely on mods as they tend to crash the game and not be as much reliable as what a game usually offers, since they are made from enthusiasts and not from hired professionals...

The stability is another issue. I know, mods can screw up the stability of your game, which brings the next issue I would like to discuss, which is the graphics...

The graphics of this game really look outdated. The menus, the parts... They look as if the game was released 20 years ago. I've seen parts that look really good as you can see in this video: https://youtu.be/8I7t-SrTRms

By improving the graphics, if the visual mods are really the issue behind the stability, then it wouldn't be a problem anymore...

Please, take this in consideration. I really like this game and it is sad to see the game with such potential to have these issues...

Happy holidays!

Well there are plans for a graphic overhaul for the rocket parts for the 1.2 update, and by stability what do you mean? Framerate, RAM-related crashes, or what? Also what you said about mods not being as stable as stock is kind of wrong, most released mods are just as stable as stock.

Why did someone rate this 1 star? There are a lot of haters and trolls in the Suggestions forum. Have my 5 star rating to bump it up, and I encourage others to do the same.

OT: I agree that the game does need better graphics and stability overall, and you can check out Ven's Stock Revamp, which looks pretty cool.

Star rating doesn't bump it at all if you look at how posts are sorted.

The advice is sort of - already known for a long while and takes a good amount of effort to implement. Just take stability - most of the issues are just memory issues and the fix will be just move to Unity5 to have a supported Win64 engine. See how much effort is done for just moving to Unity5? Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying the advice isn't good, but being an old big vague advice - don't be surprised someone would rate it low.

Well, if you don't know then why not ask about it? I didn't go into details because I assumed people would know what I mean, as Laythe apparently did. There should be a sticky news thread about these things that I've mentioned because they have such major impact in the game, that fixing should be part of the next iteration (or if you want, for the 2.0 version). What made me come into the forums to post this was because the iterations are slow and I wanted to see if this would be addressed asap, which means they should increase their team (in my opinion).

And if moving to Unity5 solves the stability, like I said, that kind of information should be in a sticky news thread. Having the developers acknowledging these issues its a step to a much better game and a bigger community.

Just want to clarify myself - I'm not claiming U5 solves stability - I just gave an example for what it takes to solve the most common crash people see. Apart from OoM crashes, I've also seen occasion AV from Unity engine that I don't know if U5 solves it or regresses it. If that's also included in your "stability issue", we'll see how U5 does.

For your other advice, I agree with the intention, but I don't quite agree with the proposed fix. However I don't have anything better, so probably I should just shut up.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
