minmus landing success

Congratulations! Minmus is my favorite place to play, due to the low gravity, beautiful scenery, and huge flat regions that I can use as runways or construction zones.

Don't forget that if you run out of fuel just before completing the last maneuver, you can always have the crew get out and push!

This. A million times this.

Back on topic, congratulations on the achievement. I remember how cool it felt to land(but not return) on minmus

Took me a dozen retries before I landed efficiently enough to have enough fuel to get back home.  Many times I only had enough fuel to make 7 seconds of a 9 second burn :(

Just to give you a tip. I don't see a docking port on your ship. If you get rid of the RCS thrusters and Monoprop tanks, your dV will increase a LOT.

Yea... that is wayyyy too much monoprop... monoprop thrusters have poor Isp, so you'd be better off with less monoprop and more LF/O.

That said, +1 to the earlier comment: "Remember that the RCS system is extra dv!"

Enable RCS, and press "H" to thrust forward, I suspect if your earlier designs had similar RCS on them, you actually would have had plenty of dV to get back

You know, he could be playing like me where he's not playing with overpowered reaction wheels though, I will agree, too much hydrazine there... maybe

True, in that case I'd suggest going from 4 tanks to 2. Reducing weight does wonders for mission performance. For a short hop like minmus it might not be very noticable, but once you start going interplanetary every kilo counts.

(And yes, I've been on the wrong side of the curve too with 10 EVA trips needed to push my spacecraft into the correct re-entry profile).

Well done,  that feeling of success when you do that kind of thing for the first time is just awesome. It's one of the thing that make this game so cool.

I tried the 'get out and push' technique once, but I couldn't get him in the right position so gave up. Then he couldn't get back in his seat before the lander hit the atmosphere again, but he just had enough propellant to put him in a safe (40 X 140) Duna orbit though.  Luckily it was a multi ship mission and I was able pick him up and bring him home.
