It took a long, long, long time.  Even at 4x physics warp.

Even worse:  I couldn't just walk away and come back a few hours later.  Xenon tanks have an abysmal mass ratio, so getting a really high dV requires dropping tanks when they're empty.  And this was back when the biggest xenon tank only held 700 units of the stuff.

So I had to babysit the thing, and every several minutes drop another pair of tanks as they were emptied.  Incredibly tedious.

On the plus side, when I was done, I could switch to map view and turn on debris display, and there was this perfect conga line of drop tanks stretched out at an angle across my wake.

that's quite an optimistic outlook on what sounds like an hour or two's worth of tedium.
