Freeze using RO/RP0 when reaching 160km

Getting a  freeze now playing RP0/RO - which is strange since I've been running it no problem for a while, haven't added/changed/removed any mods in a couple weeks.

Happens repetively when I reach ~160km with a ship now however.  game completely freezes and must be killed through the task manager.

I can't read output_log-ese, so @Maxsimal would have to describe the install more for me to know what s/he has. The log shows AVC data for a bunch of mods reporting KSP_VERSION: 1.1 , possibly something got updated using AVC that caused some borking.

 

I know that altitude is the default RSS PQS/SS altitude, as I was just changing that down to my tight transition for my 1.1 work.

Could be memory limitations, or an error with how something works/displays once SS is in effect?

@stratochief66 I have all mods listed w/version #'s in that spoiler, I know some of them got bumped up to 1.1 a while ago, but I hadn't changed my install for a while before it stopped working, especially since I knew mods might be moving to 1.1 and break stuff in 1.05 - and I thought AVC didn't do autoupdates, just prompted you when things are out of date - but yeah looked at Ckan, a LOT more of my mods are on 1.1 than they used to be, so I guess if AVC is silently updating things, that's probably it.

Is there anything outside of KSP that might cause issues?  Only thing I can think of is that I installed a couple of android emulators about the time this issue started cropping up, gonna see if killing them and other processes might fix this.

Update: Killing other processes didn't work.  However, facing the camera completely away from Earth did let me get to 260k km instead.

Watching the task manager while the freeze occurs, I go from 2.9GB upsed to 3.325 GB as soon as it happens, but memory was fine up until then.

RIght, sorry, I was tired at the time of my previous comment. What I mean is that you didn't tell us which version of KSP you had, whether you're doing x32 or x64, -force-d3d11 or -force-opengl, and what memory range you were running in (which you've done now)

 

Yeah, I would thing it is either mods updating themselves and breaking things (I can't confirm that with any strength, I never use AVC of any kind) or high memory usage on scene change (PQS/SS changeover here). I would suggest pruning or entirely removing a few parts heavy mods like US Rockets, US Probes, KW, or FASA to test. Finding a change that makes it stop breaking is what is important, than you can regroup to figure out why X Y or Z started causing issues.

@stratochief66  No worries.  Removing KW rocketry fixed it - even though it didn't reduce my memory footprint when I was launching, oddly (still at 2.9gb and change).  I was surprised it was a memory issue - thought those usually caused crashes, not freezes.

Anyway, thank you for the help, glad I can get back to my game :)

Agreed. Usually memory issues just go straight to crash. Thanks for trying the idea even when it didn't seem to be a likely solution.

@stratochief66This bug is back, even with kw still uninstalled - is there anything that could progressively eat more and more KSP memory, just from playing a long game?  I don't have a lot of ships in orbit, and deleted a few satelites I didn't need.  Only thing I see in my save file that's getting long is the list of contracts completed.

Yes. memory leaks occur at every scene change. With my fanciest 1.0.5 install (highest starting memory usage) I can play through 2-4 flights before needing a restart (or earning a crash). Make your install start using less memory, and you have more overhead before the leaks eat your remaining memory.

@stratochief66 No I meant, over time as you get deeper into the game.  With this particular issue, it always happens when I hit some particular altitude, and will always happen on the first flight after I start my game, when it's occuring.  I'm familiar with the memory leak issue, but that one does cause a crash, not this freeze.  I wonder if it has anything to do with texture issues - texture resolution changes occuring when I get far enough from Earth is the only thing I can think of.  I have the smallest size RO textures installed though. :(

Well, here's hoping RO gets to 1.1 soon 

Update: I removed FASA, which was the chunkiest mod I was using, and it didn't address the problem.
