How to find anomalies?

So I have some satellites with anomaly detection ability, and I've never found one. What should I be expecting? Is a waypoint created automatically? Are anomalies found this way just the monoliths, or do other things show up as anomalies? Is there something else I have to do?

On the Kerbnet display, they should show up as question marks.

All the easter eggs should show up as anomalies, but only a certain percentage of them each day -- according to how advanced your probe core is. No, the waypoints are not created automatically -- you have to put the reticle on top of the question mark, optionally type in a name for the waypoint, and click the "Waypoint" button.

The old island airfield, the monolith at KSC, the monolith in the mountains west of KSC, the Desert Temple, and KSC2 should all show up as you orbit around Kerbin over a course of days.
