Star Wars: Rogue One (Spoilers!!!)

So, i watched it a few hours ago, my opinions:

I liked it way, way more than part VII. Its story wasnt a complete remake of an old movie (although it had some elements, e.g. stealing the inspecting crews uniforms) and seemed way more mature. I can just imagine it will be a quite hard time for lots of children (you can watch it with 6 years in Germany), having EVERYONE remotely important die isnt usual in such movies and atleast i would have had trouble with that when i was so young.

What i absolutly loved were the visuals and the battles, completly eclipsing everything from the series (except maybe for the opening of part III, which had more capital-ship combat). Especialy the presentation of the deathstar and its weapon were awesome...

Saw it yesterday. Was very good! I even liked that they did the science and maths and things didn't explode at half the speed of light, the rocks actually flew up at orbital velocity and the shockwave went at a realistic speed!

(When the death star targeted the two places).

First off, it's called Rogue One, not Rouge one; it's not about a French pilot flying in Red squadron  [/Spelling police]

I enjoyed it immensely, the ground and space battles were pretty good, ships didn't just disappear in a fireball but scattered flaming wreckage around. Some great one-liners in there too.

The one thing that bugged me was that one four-engine ship model that twice crash-landed when just one engine got hit. I think it should have been able to keep flying, although slower. Then again, Star Wars uses repulsorlifts more than wings for flying, so I suppose those could have been damaged too.

"Seriously!? I'm blind!"

I really loved this movie, the first third or so felt a little ruched without much character development but it really picks up on Eadu (rocky storm planet).  Even though you know how it ends, I still found myself in suspense throughout the final battle, and the very last scene with Vader was over the top ("DUDE! Just pass the plans through the crack in the door!").  I loved how smoothly they matched the ending with A New Hope; you could literally start playing it and it would almost be one continuous movie.

I really liked it, but it felt a bit more like Star Wars Porn than a movie in its own right. I can't think of much that was in any of the original trilogy that wasn't represented somewhere in this movie. Not that I didn't mind the nod to the guys who were wanted in 12 systems :D

And man the Empire beefed up their walkers in the year or two between this movie and Hoth.

Those walkers were AT-ACT (All Terrain Armored Cargo Transport), while the ones used on Hoth were the normal AT-ATs.  The walkers on Scarif weren't really designed for combat.

For real though, I did like the movie. The attack on Scarif reminded me of a typical WWII beach landing on a Pacific island, and I couldn't help but whisper potential captions to my friends.

As the stormtroopers charge out the door and towards the rebels: "US Marines hold fast against a Japanese banzai charge.

Just came from back from the cinema. I agree that it was better than E:VII. I was promised a not "black-and-white" story and I think they delivered it very nicely. It's probably my favourite story-wise Star Wars movie so far.

It keeps the story self-contained for the Anthology, and shows just how many people sacrificed themselves so the Death Star could be destroyed.

Yeah, I know (complete SW nut, me), but it still feels a little convenient. At least someone should've survived the Battle of Scarif, like Baise (Mr. Machine Gun Murder Guy for those not waaaaaaaay into this sort of thing) or someone minor. I gotta say I loved the corvette as Star Destroyer RCS bit.

Well, that ending kind of ruins the "Many Bothan spies..." sentence from 'A New Hope', but it was worth it IMO.

Can't avoid few plot holes when making sequels (I know it's not a sequel but I lack a better word for it, ok?).

Yeah, I noticed the Bothans got shut out of it too. You could fly a Star Destroyer through that plot hole, but it is just one line that is easily forgotten about.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if one more "Definitive Edition" of ANH was released, deleting/modifying that line and adding in the chase coming out of hyperspace at the very beginning. Not sure what else could be tweaked to make the effort worthwhile, aside from going back to "Han shot first!"

But at the same time Rogue One deals with the "what kind of moron makes a super weapon with a weak spot" part of the saga. IMO that nicely evens out these plot sins.

Werent the Bothans the spies who brought the informations about the second deathstar?

Also form the scrolling text from A New Hope:

"It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire’s sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy…. "

This sounds like a good summary of the events of Rogue One.

Good point, it does, but yet it doesn't. I don't recall Galen Erso mentioning the thermal exhaust port that the Rebels found in the plans, just that the reactor was built to blow up big-big if it was hit hard enough.

I liked that part too, but I found myself thinking the physics seemed off. The second Star Destroyer should have been pushed away before that much damage was done, IMO. They were trying to muster up reverse so there shouldn't be anything in space to hold it in place. to absorb that much damage.

I have a feeling the rest of his message detailed how to do it, but Jyn never saw that. Forest Whitaker probably knew it, but didn't have time to tell her. Or maybe he wanted to give the Rebellion the finger one final time.

Come to think of it, I think you're right. That solves that. I think a lot of people will be watching ANH again this weekend (goes looking for the Blu-Rays....)

Riiiiight, forgot about that.

I think I'll be watching this one many more times when it's on disc, way more than i've watched TFA or 1-2 (3 wasn't bad if you can ignore the wooden acting of Anakin)
