Selective Asset Loading?

I realize the various tidbits of code that load our assets at launch are probably hidden behind unity dragons and squad ogres, but with the fine work we see in the likes of ModuleManager, I have to ask;

Has anyone put together a selective asset loader? Like reloading individual assets? Bearing in mind, I know very little about what I ask, so detailed responses about memory address allotment, or ...dragons... Would be lost on me :D .

TL;DR: has anyone made one? Is it possible from a non-dev level of (legal) access?
