This is an pretty old feature. Its belived some had to do some internal work plugging the ascending passageway. I assume the shaft was also plugged but this should be pretty easy. It looks slightly larger on the right side, though perhaps the same the other way on the left, it might be just offset/rotated slightly. last image zoom left side, steps the other direction.
