Aye, that's about all that's been confirmed by HarvesteR. Be aware, though, although a Campaign Mode is planned, work on it has not yet begun (as far as anyone other than Squad themselves is aware), so when it finally comes, it may be vastly different even from HarvesteR's vague ideas.

He's posted every now and then on the subject, usually to the effect of aceassasin's words. The plan is something along the lines of:

-- There will be a tech tree of sorts (player begins with junk parts "found on the side of the road" or similar, working their way up to more advanced or Sci-Fi tech)

-- You'll start with a set amount of funding and will be able to get more (publicity, completing set tasks, etc.)

-- There *may* be a vaguely political aspect

-- There will *probably* be consequences for unnecessary risks/damage to crew and property

That's about all that's been tentatively confirmed by Harv, and much of it is still speculation even by him. Nobody knows what form it'll take until they get round to making it.

My understanding is they are taking inspiration from Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space.

Some features that probably/possibly will be included...

* Tech tree, both new parts and improvements

* Economic management (ie. revenue and expenses, including repairing damaged KSP facilities)

* Hire and train kerbonauts

* Part recovery

* Missions

* Some narrative of sorts as well I would think

I'm reasonably certain there'll be a sort of public opinion level. Most notably mentioned in the recent live stream they were talking about if You ran out of money, the government would bail you out, but "public opinion would go straight down"

If you want to play Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space the original developers have created an official open source version of the game with a number of bug fixes and improvements, it still looks like the 20 year old PC version though:

http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/raceintospace

I made a little video about the game a while back

bsalis mentioned BARIS, but really Illectro's comment could be considered Spam.

illectro, if you want to let people know about BARIS, make a Off-Topic thread.

One thing i havn't seen mentioned is the prospect of having to also build up your space centre. You could start in your own back yard and work your way to a fully fledged tower with a spaceplane runway!

I think it was mentioned a long long time ago (late 2011) that it was planned that you could buy and upgrade buildings? I could be wrong on that though since it was forever ago.

That has been suggested several times over the past year. Please remember to search for your idea on the forums, just to see if other people have suggested it and what their answer was.

Original thread starter asked how campagin mode would work. Developers and fans have repeatedly cited BARIS as an inspiration. Therefore, best way to illustrate how campaign mode might work would be to play the game.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
