[0.17] Kosmos Spacecraft Design Bureau - 0.17 LK parts released

So I am wondering is I should make NK-33.... It would be none thrust vectorable and unlike RD-0146 it will eat fuel :D

Of course the real debate is whether or not to make the NK-43 (the vacuum version) for the Nk-33 as a heavy launch upper stage engine OR just make a vacuum version of the RD-191 both of which would have extendable nozzles.

Also, holy damn the Nk-33 starter and starter exhaust is massive. It is that whole tub at the bottom of the pump and that long tube going down the side of the nozzle.

input would be great

I tried to make an NK-33/F-1 sort of hybrid-looking engine, but it had about 60k faces by the time I was done. Even after I decimated, it was still way too much detail for the game. I decided that the one in the Russian engines pack was good enough. That said, I really like the NK-33 from that pack, but would always welcome more.

I do we think we're lacking properly scaled "super high power" rocket engines at it stands (if I'm not misunderstanding the NK-33 anyway), so I would gladly look forward to it. In any case, I eagerly anticipate the Angara pack being brought over to the new sizes (not to mention the KOSMOS lander having IVA somewhere done the road...if you're considering it, given that it's a daunting task).

Today the RD-0440 was strapped into the test stand for a full burn test to make sure it would not over heat from firing.

Overhauled version features Shorter Profile, simpler less cluttered plumbing, Extendable Space nozzle, and a lovely radioactive glow in the night or space skies :) I also made the nozzle the only thing that vectors. Now the whole engine will not flap about like a fish out of water.

Very exciting! Definitely like the glow effect. Out of curiosity, is the seating between the engine and the fuel tank above it still kind of "loose"? I notice that seems to be the case for most mod packs (at least, they seem looser than then the default engines).

No. i make my collider meshes really close and such to stop this. But you should always use three struct connectors to attach engines securely to tanks.

Well, that's good to hear then. :) It's very rare that you get a decent sized rocket that can sit on its own engines.
