In another thread, a dispute came up about the nature of wings, propellers, and lift. I think its best to discuss it here. So I will try to present the argument without naming names, and let others weigh in before arguing my position. Basically, someone was arguing that wings and propellers do not work the same way, and that the lift force cannot be explained in terms of Newton's 3rd law/ that the wing deflects air downward, such that the air is effectively "reaction mass". ...
