Well that gives me a tiny bit of hope for the 1050ti laptop I'm stuck with for a while. My laptop still has only 8gb ram though, and I suspect that'll be the bigger issue.

I'm betting you can still get to Minmus with that.

Perhaps someone capable can make an ultra-low texture resolution mod to reduce RAM/VRAM usage?

As someone who has no knowledge of modding, and going off of pure assumption, this sounds like an extremely interesting idea to me. Reminds me of similar downscale packs that were available before KSP had 64 bit support. Hadn't thought about something like that. Guess we shall see what's possible with modding in the next few weeks!

It's worth noting that laptop grade graphics cards are less powerful than their desktop counterparts. My 3070Ti Laptop should be about matched with a desktop 2080.

Typically true yes, but from what I've read the mobile 1050ti tends to be pretty close to the desktop version.

I don't think it's a question of how far I can get as much as it is how pleasant the experience is. My current plan is to try to rush a Duna mission within the 2 hour refund window to get a good overall sense of performance, but I've only been to Duna once in KSP1 so we'll see how that goes.

Good luck!

If that were my plan, I would make a stock parts craft that could pull it off, print the parts list and then recreate it as close as possible with the Sandbox parts EA shows up with.

Should be doable.  Report progress Friday!

I don't expect to get farther than Mun in the first two hours. Or weeks. :-D

I'm actually going to try to resist the temptation to look at the CCs KSP2 content this week... And hopefully load it up Friday and enjoy it as if it were a totally new game.

Something I have not done in a while.  (I used to really enjoy the 'new' of a game!)

I'm going to watch the in-game tutorials available, play around with making rovers and planes and then likely try to get to the moons all without asking /looking for help on the forums / interwebs.

My whole focus is on how accessible the game is for new players - as I have kids and friends who have never Kerballed and would like to recommend it (when ready).

Thanks! I have a few plans for what I want to do using the known new parts, but failing that I'll probably just stick a capsule on a bunch of hydrogen tanks with a nuclear engine and forget the return trip, For All Mankind style. Rescue mission? That's something for future me to worry about.

Matt Lowne is saying he's posting KSP videos every day this week, starting tomorrow at 2 pm GMT (6 am PST). Awfully specific, and it's the same time KSP2 drops on Friday. Maybe his KSP content this week will actually be KSP2?

I seriously doubt that they all will be ksp2 videos as I dont think he had nearly enough time to record all of that.. that being said the monday video also has new frontiers listed, maybe the apollo style mun mission was done in ksp2?

Back in the days of computer magazines and buying games based off their box art, the sense of exploring and figuring out stuff in games was amazing. I really miss that part going into new games, with all the screenshots, trailers and the general gaming experience one gathers over all those years gaming kinda "spoiling" it.

I heard Scott manley had his video corrupted which he tried to record at the KSP2 Event.

I suppose I am not worried about a refund, I remember what KSP 1 started as, and what it became.

I am just going to use the Early Access to get to know the new UI, and test stuff out, not in a rush to get to any specific place.

That is probably Ike, another shot of that craft in the steam page has Duna rising.

We've seen plenty of Ike and Ike is grey, not red. Theyve reused the same crafts to show off different planets in the past, I wont be surprised if this is the case again.

I'm curious.. do you guys still doubt the scale and ambition of KSP2? Am I still crazy for asking to have weather visuals and all the stuff?

It's less about hoping/wanting and more about what is to be expected, and I personally don't expect stuff that wasn't shown on the roadmap or talked about in dev diaries and official videos/interviews...

I expect a more ambitious scale and more gameplay loops because that's what was announced. I also expect better visuals than stock KSP1, nothing more.

If enough people ask for weather effects, maybe they'll consider it,  but I don't think this is really high on the list of stuff they want to add.

No - although I only wished for a bit of perspective, rather than the tone of 'if it's not like this mod, it's a fail'.

I would like interesting, multilayer clouds and things that simulate weather and seasons...

But then I think about my actual gameplay experience with KSP and realize that those things would be so background to what I expect from KSP2 as to be quaint rather than required

Based on what's being asked of our systems? Nope, I personally don't think it's crazy to hope for any of that. I say dare to dream

The system requirements are reasonable for pre-optimisation code. Vl3d's dreams are still unreasonable.
