UI Add-On Development

Recommended Posts

I'd like to try developing an add-on - dependent on texture replacer - that would replace the stock UI with a much cleaner one similar to that of KSP 2. However, I'm unsure of where to start in terms of finding the texture locations and editing them.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

This idea has been floated a few times before, about once a year, but every time the effort seems to fade out before any actual working code gets made:

So there probably aren't any ready-made answers or tips that anyone already has figured out to give you.
But good luck on being the first to succeed!

However, there is this older effort that did have a few releases. Maybe you can glean something from it:

It's a shame nobody has managed to get a release on something like this since 1.3.1, but it's worth a try and get at the very least the tools to do this working seeing as KSP 1 won't be changing all that much from here on out.

Karbon would be a good one for trying to get a revival project going, as it wasn't too ambitious but I can't find a dev threat on it sadly. Will still try and get something going regardless. Thanks for the help on this, I'll update this thread if I end up getting the ball rolling on something.

I was also interested in modifying the UI and was looking to see if I could change anything, only to find out that the UI textures might be changed in the same way as mods like changing NavBall.
However, I have no idea where the vanilla UI textures are.

KSPCommunityFixes has features to modify the UI, but that source code was too difficult for me lol.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
