KSP2: How for the love of all that is Kerbal do you remove a part from Symmetry?

Using asparagus staging, I have four liquid fuel rockets attached to the main.  Using symmetry I add four parachutes, one for each asparagus stage.  How do I split those four parachutes in staging so the correct two engage when those two stages separate?   Even if I drag the mouse down the individual parachutes within that group of four, any attempt to drag one (and only one) to another stage drags all four.  There is no option in part manager, no left-click menu.  I somehow managed to do it accidentally once, but cannot replicate it.  Also went through the tutorials, but did not find the answer.

I'm pulling what little hair I've got left out trying to find an answer.  It almost seems like the first time as a fluke.
