  • Description of the bug.
    • The Mun is not visible on the Flight screen during a flyby after entering the SOI of The Mun.
Restoring to a quicksave made at that point makes The Mun visible as expected.
  • Steps to Replicate
    - Build a vessel capable of reaching the orbit of The Mun when launched straight up.

    - Target The Mun.
    - Launch straight up when The Mun has passed overhead and set by 30 degrees ie do not use a parking orbit
    or maneuver plans.
    - Cut throttle when the Ap of the launch trajectory has reached the orbit of The Mun - this is the point of the future encounter.
    - From the Map screen, timewarp until the vessel has entered the SOI of The Mun.
    - From the Map screen, timewarp until the vessel reaches the Pe.
    - From the Flight screen, look around for The Mun - it should be clearly visible at that point.
  • Restoring to a quicksave made at that point makes The Mun visible as expected.
  • No mods
  • Other Notes / Screenshots / Log Files (if possible..)
    - I have a YouTube video which shows a flyby of The Mun for Patch 2. I can add the URL if neccessary (I am not familiar with this Forum's policies about self-promotion).
    - A related "bug" (if it is a bug) is the encounter with the SOI of The Mun is not displayed after the trajectory reaches the orbit of The Mun, the SOI exit point IS displayed after the vessel reaches the SOI. It is likely the SOI info including the image of The Mun is not being loaded correctly.

What the title says, whenever I approach the Mun at ~900KM from surface, it does a abrupt fade off the screen, then fades back in under 300km. Purely visual and even has its own little effect when it happens. Here's it from munar orbit at about 870 km:Caqzz4f.jpg

And here's it at about 250km, with the Mun back in view:xU3pRZC.jpg

I'm not sure why this happens, but every Mun mission so far has had this bug happen,

On approach to Minmus at around 5000k estimated the moon appeared to have a grainy look after coming out of map view and over the next few seconds slowly faded from view like planet EN II in Star Ocean 4.  It was still visible in map view but did not return into view until about 1000k.  I just shrugged when it disappeared and kept going for an "IFR" landing since I have run into so many bugs already and so I was relieved when it returned and I could complete the mission properly.

I had a bug where the Mun disappeared ingame:

Map View - Same-ish angle:

A quick save Quick load fixed it.

I saw this with Duna the last time I fired up KSP2 (couple weeks ago).  The planet is there and it shows up in map view, but the texture doesn't show up in flight view until you get close to it.

I have yet to go to Duna.. Yet to leave Kerbin sphere of influence actually xD - I've been busy and entertained enough by setting up a Mun - LKO connection. That will facilitate future missions - probably to Duna.

But its good to know that a quick safe/Quick load fixes it x)

Possible workaround: I've had limited success by going back to KSC from the game menu and resuming control of the craft through the tracking station.  Seems like it forces everything to reload.

So, I can trigger this on my build easily enough. The mun disappears when executing a manuver that takes you in or out of the mun's SOI. So, effectively an insertion burn or an ejection burn.

The Mun reappears on a reload.
