KSP2 on M2 Mac Post Patch 1

Recommended Posts

I had first been using Parallels running Windows 11 to run KSP2 on my M2 Max MBP,  but after installing Patch 1 the graphics rendering atmosphere became solid black and would persist upon rotating the view, until the entire window became covered with this black artifact. I had taken a break to focus academics, but I went back and verified all versions available as the betas in steam after the initial had this same phenomenon. (For reference I'm running the Sonoma beta on a 14" MBP M2 Max with 32 GB memory)

I tried CrossOver, which didn't have this artifact, but had plenty of its own visual artifacts

Then I tried Apple's flavor of wine, the Game Porting Toolkit on macOS Sonoma - This works in my (rather brief) testing so far without any obtrusive visual glitches. For mods to load, you need to setup wine to use native version of the winhttp dll. Ive tested this using a CKAN install of Fancy Fuel Tanks + dependencies, and it seems to work.

I found this guide helpful to setup the GPTK

https://www.applegamingwiki.com/wiki/Game_Porting_Toolkit

And this helps with the configuring of the winhttp dll

https://docs.bepinex.dev/articles/advanced/proton_wine.html

use

gameportingtoolkit <path-to-prefix> winecfg

in the x86 zsh to launch the wine cfg tool

Really excited to play more KSP2 on Mac!!
