Could we get ground-anchoring landing legs? that would be majorly helpful in preventing crafts from tipping over.

I was thinking about having Wallaby landing legs that could drill into the ground when landed. this could help majorly with preventing craft tipping. when you’re ready to lift off, you can get a kerbal to get the drills out, allowing for you to get off the surface again.

In KSP the ground is inelastic and unrealistically frictionless so it’s too easy for crafts to bounce upon landing and slide once they’re landed. Not the same as tipping but other reasons to have some kind of anchor.

Myself, I like the act of scouting out landing sites ahead of time so I usually land on a nice and flat surface.

I think that's a big part of ksp's charm. real landers will also try to not land on a slope, and landers are designed for specific area's as well, to make sure they don't tip over. the sliding is a different issue, but if your lander is tipping over, maybe it needs to be designed differently. it's also possible to adjust the strength of the landing legs already, so I see this as a non issue. the only issue I still see is that when the craft is loaded in on a surface, the craft sometimes bounces up.

That's funny. For all of my hours of gameplay, it never occurred to me to try and design "slope lander". I always put landing legs in the same height and search for a flat spot.

Oh boy yeah that's been super common in 2 compared to 1.

Perhaps having the gear temporarily anchor stuff could be a good replacement for physics easing.

I'm afraid that would only cause more kraken attacks. I think the bouncy legs are caused by Unity's spring joint clipping into the terrain when loading, which causes the engine to try and push it apart again, thus pushing the whole craft up. They would need to load in the spring joints at a set distance, saved when landed, and gradually lerp it to it's normal position, before increasing the spring strength. a fixed anchor would likely result in overlapping colliders because of that and make it worse. but I could be wrong.

I agree that it is, but it’s not very possible unless you a) make rigid landing legs(maybe out of struts, but then they can’t retract) or b) just land on your engines. I’m open to discussing better options though, since i’m aware that ground-anchoring landing legs aren’t perfect.
