LN400
Mods include but are not limited to KAS. So, I have here parts that can be placed in a ship's inventory, one is the RTS-1 Resource Transfer Station (KAS). However, this item is too heavy and too big for a kerbal to carry around. How does one use items in the inventory, that are too heavy or too big to carry? JadeOfMaar
@LN400 Where KIS & KAS are concerned, just have more kerbals nearby when trying to pick up a heavy item. Each kerbal can lift up to 1 ton. If you want to move a 5 ton object, have 5 or 6 kerbals in one spot. It works similarly with stock construction, I think, but how much a kerbal lifts is more complicated. The amount is weight (mass x current gravity) and not just mass.
LN400
Thanks a bunch! How would this work in EVA? Do I need several kerbals floating around? Sounds nerveracking having to keep an eye on a small army of floating kerbals.

Zero G makes every part weigh zero regardless of its mass.
JadeOfMaar
@DeadJohn What about while using KAS/KIS to attach heavy things while orbiting? That's not something I would do so I don't know for sure how that works. There was one case where, using KAS/KIS, I had a kerbal detach half of the ship from near the middle. (We don't speak of re-attaching. I have no memory of successfully doing that.)
LN400
I don't have any experience in totally dismantling my ship while in orbit but I have managed to rip off a few parts too many to feel very brave about this. 20 minutes ago, JadeOfMaar said: @DeadJohn What about while using KAS/KIS to attach heavy things while orbiting? I haven't used KAS for years because stock construction gave me fewer phantom acceleration events and fewer exploding parts after attaching. I still use KIS.
