Sorry you're dissapointed by KSP 2. I, too, splurged on a new PC for KSP 2. Right now by far the closest experience to what was promised for KSP 2 remains modded KSP 1.

At this point, do we even know if KSP1 will remain available? Or, will it be iced along with the rest of the IP? Also, there seems to be some doubt as to whether even these forums will remain much longer.

KSP like I don't know.

a-But there is Rocket Science, it is in early access and developped by a studio in the Russian Federation so i would be a bit cautious. But it seems inspired by KSP, the soviet space program and  X-Com anthill.

b-Juno.  It doesn't have the KSP vibe but it is very good and that's surely the closest existing game to KSP

c-Kithack model club. No rockets but planes, cars and ships. Early Access, from KSP devs.

d Trailmakers. Allows to build weird crafts.

If you want a chill space game, less about the building and more about exploring, try Astroneer. Really fun. The devs were indie for a while, but Devolver bought them, so there’s a good amount of hope for the game’s future. Heck, they even are making a $10 DLC!

Speaking of that, there's a reason I methodically collect KSP versions on a separate harddrive.

You took out a loan on a 200$ graphics card? Yike's man. Should've bought an entire PC instead.

Not trying to sound harsh, just saying.

Had Intel i5-4460 3.20GHz

And bought an additional 8 GB RAM

Enough to say I could play even CyberPunk on it

Not as old as my  Athlon II X4 640 I ditched in 2019. I still felt like it could hold out a little bit longer but it was the lack of features in my graphics card leading me to upgrade. The 2200G with a 50€ board simply was to cheap to not to buy. No problem on 720p. On which resolution do you play?

I not played for sometime, honestly i was anoyed that my lander was counted as "landed" even after it's took of from Mun :(

But I think it's low to medium and 1080i vs 1080p  I think

One of the worst FPS killers (or slideshow makers) is blowing up your VRAM. Once the total textures to render a scene is bigger than the available VRAM, the GPU driver does some shenanigans using the CPU's RAM to store them, and the GPU suffers to access that textures.

The first thing you should try when your performance is terrible (really, really terrible) is to lower the textures resolution (on KSP¹, I need to set it to Quarter, on the Game Settings Menu, depending on how much add'ons I had installed).

If KSP2 has something similar, I suggest to try it.

you can crank on texture detail till you are blue in the face, with very little performance impact. but once you exceed your memory things get really bad. the swaping starts, and you seriously hog the pcie bus at that point, which slows everything else down.  thing is its one of those problems you can solve at load time. the compressed texture format is arranged so you can read the header, change a couple bytes and advance the pointer at load time, simply do not load the mips that are above a set threshold. frankly you can cut out the guess work and just query the card, then figure out if your textures will fit, if the answer is no, start tossing mips. you may also use better texture formats more suited to your capabilities and generate them on first load from lossless sources.

frankly im not quite sure how modern game devs get away without using the witchcraft of olde. instead trusting "the engine" with all the "demonic details" set for you.
