Can someone give me some random/cool things to do in ksp?

Do you play with mods? If yes here are some fun timewasters:

  • Design a brand new KSC using Kerbal Konstructs.
  • Build an airbreathing jet (without any engines that can run in space, or if you have a dual mode engine carry no oxidizer) to flyby Mun. Mk2 Expansion has a hypersonic engine that can get enough airspeed to do this. OPT spaceplane parts might also be able to do it. It's challenging to eject from Kerbin at just the right time but even failures can be fun. Make it a drone because your vessel is likley to get lost in space.
  • Have you ever played in career mode? Try it.

Here's some challenges I fall back on:

- Minimalist Mass / Part count / engine count

- SSTO (ISRU or not)

- Gravity multipliers (I recommend using SigmaDimensions if you plan on going somewhere)

- Career mode with 10% Science or funds (If you do max difficulty then you kinda end up softlocked at tier 5 tech)

- doing the above with different planet packs

ideas:

  1. launch, go to Mun and back to Kerbin... without entering an orbit. You must stay in Escaping, suborbital, etc. but no "orbiting" state allowed ever. I posted a Making History mission that enforces this by exploding your ship if it's Orbiting. Called Orbit Kraken (or something like that). 
  2. Build a ship using EVA construction on the launch pad that can go to orbit and back. All parts must be packed in storage containers before assembling on the pad. I also made a challenge post for this... Fabless Space Program. Definitely use KSP 1.12 for this.
  3. Do a seismic experiment for a planet with atmosphere. I did it on Duna and Kerbin... Laythe and Eve should be hard.
  4. JNSQ (larger and more planets)
  5.  Icons in my signature have more

Plant a flag on Eve's sea floor, the deeper the better. Then get all Kerbonauts involved safely back to Kerbin.

I have actually done this, so I can guarantee that it is possible.

More suggestions: 

- make a newtons cradle out of asteroids

- circumnavigate every planet

- get as far away from Kerbol as possible

- see how many tons you can get to orbit in one launch

Do you like tourism contracts? If yes, there's Kourageous Tourists

There're silly missions like touring tourists into the nearest anomaly,  but there're also parachuting and swimming on Laythe or taking pictures on anomalies from other planets - as long you had discovered them.

Complicated missions will demand you to train your tourists first into higher levels, so you end up bringing tourists for regular missions for training.

Of course, the Contracts only work on Career Mode - but you can ferry tourists and parachute them around Kerbol System on sandbox too.

I did. It isn't actually very hard to plant a flag on the seafloor, the challenge is finding out how to do it.

If you want long challenges that will keep you busy for some months...

Try the no contract career challenge.

Do a grand tour.

Do a nanodiamond caveman.

Try the whirligig world planetary pack. Try a grand tour there.

Do a jool 5 with kerbalism installed

Do a grand tour with kerbalism installed.

Do a grand tour with kerbalism and outer planet mod installed

Do a grand tour of the real solar system with kerbalism installed.

Do a nanodiamond caveman with kerbalism installed.

Do a Duna mission with caveman limitations

Do a Jool 5 with caveman limitations

 

Doing the above kept me busy for the best part of 4 years. rss+kerbalism alone took 9 months.

I'll take this one step further and say to do every level of Caveman.  I'm in the middle of doing this right now; I need to finish Moderate before moving on to the custom difficulties.

I have been playing  probes before crew approach and have two relays to place before i plan my un-keerballed trip to the mun.
Alos have added Komplexity and Kourageous Kerbals. I am having alot of fun imagining where the program will be going. I want to create a series of training facilities and start the tourism part after Kerbals reach space.

Probes --> Kerbonauts --> Civie Frogs in space.

Made a few little probe planes to explore kerbin. This does not mean the illustrious KerboNauts are merely resting on their laurels, some are making popcorn and taking bets on whether or not launch day will be a success or not.

Currently using a simplified USI / Snacks combo for Life Support. It has not come up yet, but this should add a little depth once i start doing missions in space.

I really enjoyed the no contract career challenge. 

The goal is simple: start a normal career and try to upgrade all base parts to tier 3. 

You're only not allowed to accept contracts. You only gain funds from world first awards. 

It really makes you rethink your build strategy.
