farmerben
The true stand alone application is on a boat. The trend on modern boats (especially catamarans) is to add as much solar as possible. And enough batteries to run household loads for 3 days, or motor 50 miles. Micro wind turbines for mounting on boats have been around for decades, but they suck.

On the other hand, many sailboats have enough lead in the keel to shield a tiny nuclear reactor. 500W versions should be legal. Nice base load

Nice base load I am going to assume sarcasm in that statement. When the fuel is spent we will have some nice yellowcake to eat. And everyone who sails has a major in engineering to maintain the steam turbine and all the related plumbing involved. Last I knew nuclear is still just to heat water into high pressure steam to spin a turbine. Or have they developed a way to have it push electrons? Well not sarcasm, humor, or an attempt at it. Though on further thinking an RTG as on the Pioneers would be nice. No steam generator required. Again, humor Edited Tuesday at 12:48 PM by darthgently

Your spaceship would never get cold. Maybe it should be used to stop the pipes freezing in Winter.

And may even prevent getting iced in when anchored in arctic waters Edited Tuesday at 02:51 PM by darthgently
