Re-entry effect fly by

Recommended Posts

I've been trying for a few hours to do this now, so I want to see if anyone else can as well. I have a rocket landed on Eve and I've been trying to fly another rocket high enough to have a re-entry effect but low enough to visibly see it from the landed rocket. I decided Eve because the purple sky with the orange re-entry burn would look cool.

Challenge is to do this and post a screen shot. Doesn't matter what planet or moon.

You can't.

Actually I think it would be possible, set the flyby craft Pe to fly low overhead and control the landed craft. It won't encounter atmospheric drag until within physics range of your controlled craft, at which point it will be going fast!

You have to be under about 2.2 kilometers from the landed craft just to see the flying one, at best. At that low of an altitude, you would just be seeing the Mach effects, and because of Eve's thick atmosphere, it would be hard to get up to that speed anyway.
