I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked.

The world is better for his passing, true; but he was a husband and father, and for all his evil it\'s sad to see someone murdered in such a way.

Yes, it was necessary, but I will not be throwing a party for yet another murder.

I do believe everyone has the right to a fair trial. I would have thought he would be put to death anyway but at least it would have been done legally.

Nice gun he had on him though, gold plated browning hi-power. Talking to british troops before they seem to like them quite abit, only complaints I\'ve heard are that compared to some weapons they seem to be a bit more finicky about being properly maintained and they can give some nasty slide bite. Gold plating surely serves no purpose though, plenty of flashier handguns to gold plate.

Yeah, back when everyone was elated and celebrating after Bin Laden\'s death, I just couldn\'t feel excited that someone\'s life had ended. Sure, the world\'s better off without these people, but celebrating death just feels wrong.

No one should celibrate his death, because although the civil war is over, There is still much to be done. One thing is for sure, The poorer African nations will hate lybia for killing the only hope at getting back out of the poverty (look up the USA (United States Of Africa)).

I\'d say they\'ve helped themselves out of poverty. Gaddafi was a corrupt man, he kept the countries money to himself when it should have been used to build a better infrastructure. He was continuing the poverty. Look at the fact his personal weapon was gold plated and the sheer number of german made modern weapons found in his compounds (we\'re talking G36\'s and MP5\'s etc) yet his troops on the ground were still using the venerable AK platform (nothing wrong with AK\'s, I\'d say the best assault rifle on the planet but not one that I like). He had money but wouldn\'t use it.

Hopefully the NTC will put it back to good use. Dunno what they will do with the weapons. Guess they could start some special forces group or something.

I don\'t know, dictators seem to have a peculiar taste in guns. Saddam Hussein had gold-plated AK47s, and that\'s about as mundane, cheap, and plebeian as guns get. Taking an ordinary gun like that and then trying to make it flashy by garnishing it with some gold plating seems very much like taking a crummy car like a ten year old 1.2 Honda Civic and then putting a fake ram air scoop on the bonnet and welding a piece of chimney pipe on the exhaust. It\'s still the same old piece of crap, only now you\'ve made it tasteless as well. I just don\'t get it.

Everyone has peticular tastes in guns. Personally I like a good UMP-45, USP-45, and a good sniper rifle. I also hate shotguns. So they like a certain gun and want to make the world see it as 'That is one good looking gun' so they gold plate it. Personally it adds too much weight.

As far as guns go it is a bit of an each to his own affair. UMP and USP I dislike. The MP5 was better IMO and available in more calibers. USP, meh. Yet another handgun. My personal favourite is the 1911 platform. But once again each to his own. I like a nicely accurised weapon and would probably take the accuracy international AX338 as my weapon of choice. .338 lapua magnum on an improved version of the AW action which was already known for being the best of the best. CoD fanboys, the L96 is an older version of this weapon and not very well depicted in call of duty.

CoD fanboys who think they know about firearms really annoy me aswell. I asked one to explain how a gas piston worked and he turned around and told me I made it up. Look ontop of that AK47 in your beloved game, one right there, you know, the thing that some idiots have even been known to call a spare barrel.

Not that civics are in any way crap cars to start with.

They\'re alright, but they\'re hardly hardcore street racers. Ram air scoops, racing stripes, and huge exhaust nozzles just look ridiculous on them. And as Jeremy Clarkson put it, the disadvantage is that if you buy a Honda, you end up with a Honda.

They\'d probably hand it to most cars on a track though, just due to the rigid chassis and stiff suspension (guess you\'d want the upper spec version though). They might not have straight line speed, so yeah they\'re not a great car for rolling starts at 80k\'s, but the fact that they can hold so much speed through corners gives them a huge advantage.

Oh and someones Honda just clocked up 1 million km supposedly.

That\'s not such a huge problem, with proper maintenance any car can be kept going for decades. But my point was that if you want something flashy and gaudy, why not buy something that is flashy and gaudy in the first place? Why buy something ordinary and then try to tart it up? That\'s still not going to impress anybody, because it\'ll still be very obviously something ordinary with a bit of garnish on top.

Guns are simple compared to aircraft. Those COD fanboys make me embarised. Some of my friends who play COD think that the Desert Eagle is as accurate as a sniper in real life.

Some of my friends think that miniguns don\'t need extensive prefire checks and water-cooling, either, because of CoD. i mean, the original CoD was epic, but it\'s turned to fecal matter.

Can\'t beat one CoD fanboy I know, reckons the standard issue weapon combo for all nato forces is an AK47 and a .44magnum. I asked him which .44 magnum was he referring to and he suddenly thought I was a moron because I didn\'t know what a .44 magnum was. THERES LOADS OF GUNS FIRING .44 MAGNUM!

I have nothing against AK\'s and their derivitives, don\'t like them but got to give them respect, built and looked after properly and they will outlive you. But nato countries choose their own weapons as long as they fire 5.56. To my knowledge, none of them use the AK platform.

As for nato using .44 magnums, well...

Not quite. I happen to know for a fact that my country still uses these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sa_vz._58 That may look like an AK, but it\'s actually completely different on the inside. We also have the Dragunov sniper rifle, which is based on the AK. I would imagine other NATO countries from the former Eastern Bloc haven\'t discarded their old 7.62 weapons just yet either.

Part of the agreement for joining NATO is that your nation assault rifle should fire 5.56 stupidly. According to various web sources your country is phasing out the Sa_vz 58 in favour of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CZ-805_BREN, http://world.guns.ru/assault/chex/cz-05-e.html in order to comply with NATO. I must say, very nice looking weapon.

Contrary to popular belief the dragunov\'s relationship to the AK is purely cosmetic as with the SA_vz weapon you showed.

I\'m english and we use these:

SA80 family. Loads of people used to complain about reliability but once the germans got hold of it (in particular HK) and tinkered with it to create the A2 its been perfect. Few issues with maintaining the gas port (the tool can get stuck if not careful and requires a full disassembly of the gas block to remove) and the SUSAT sight has a center pillar covering the targets lower body, many soldiers seem to forget to tighten a nut on the SUSAT causing it to fail to hold its zero. The handguard plastic is meant to be a bit on the cheap and cheerful side. Mostly issue\'s caused by user.

The Browning hi-power (same as gaddafi) is currently in use as a sidearm but being phased out in favor of the SIG p226

I want to know where gaddafi got his G36\'s from (some where found in his tripoli compound). The serial numbers show they were manufactured since a ban was placed on H&K whether direct or through middle men exporting to libya.

Yeah, I know. But we\'ve got thousands of the damn things. It\'s going to take them a while to get rid of them.

Gosh, a popular news site has deceived me with false information. How shocking. :D

I doubt anyone\'s ever going to find out.

I thought it was just that the standard magazine would be adopted. Didn\'t think it meant you had to use 5.56x54, thought it meant you could also use 7.62mm ammunition (as evidenced by the fact that the SLR, g3 etc was used for a long time), and the trend to 5.56 was because it is a better (or people thought it was a better) round, not because anyone was forced to.

I thought the rebels were the ones with the G36\'s? I got the impression that the people who were looking after some of the media had them. Foreign security maybe? Did raise an eyebrow when i saw them though

Well if they found any in his warehouses they weren\'t just going to leave them lying around, now were they?

Edit: Dammit, ninja\'d!
