Most Fun part of KSP

Storm1

What is the most fun part of KSP?

  1. 1. What is the most fun part of KSP?

    • Long term spaceplane missions
    • Short term spaceplane missions
    • Landing on planets
    • EVA
    • Rocket launches and fooling around inside Kerbin's atmosphere

Recommended Posts

Designing, testing rockets and inventing original and over-engineered solutions to non-existent problems, so I picked "messing around inside Kerbin's atmosphere".

Of course, designing flying deathtraps is only half the fun, flying the deathtraps that I designed is the other half... :D

I also enjoy refining orbital mechanics skill (acquired after playing Orbiter too much), it gives me more a sense of achievement than "fun" in the Dwarf Fortress way...

My favourite part of this game may be that awesome feeling you get when you feel like you've pushed your limits, and you've done something incredible.

Exploring the Muns' south pole:

Building my first space station:

Sending my first probe to Laythes surface:

Before I knew about this game, I didn't have a clue how these things could be done. Know I'm thinking how I can do even better. So improving my capabilities would be my answer. I suppose landing on planets would be the closest answer allowed.

Literally just trial and error-ing back on Kerbin until I, after many MANY ragequits and nearly 20 re-designs and countless tweaks (I kid you not, it has taken me forever to get an ideal lifter for my purposes) coming out of the VAB or SPH with a near-perfect craft.

omg how much lag does that create!

I detail that in this post. From launch to out-of-fuel, it took me one hour and thirteen minutes in real time at about one frame per second. And I show pretty pictures of it in flight :)

#EDIT: Got moving fast enough and low enough to get ionization of the air from atmospheric ramming. While going up!

Designing definitely is my favorite. Though I also love blasting it to space and just seeing my creation majestically floating through space.

So far docking is proving a bit too hard for me to really enjoy, but I'm just getting the hang of it so maybe in the future I'll enjoy it more :)

I like completing self imposed missions.

Currently building a remote self sustaining launch facility on Duna. Got my Kethane facility landed and a launch pad. Having a problem figuring out a mobile drilling rig for Ore, and a smelter rig that survives reentry one Duna... hate duna... stupid duna... thin atmo and too much grav. grrrrrrrrrrr

Long term I want to put a orbital refueling station at ike for outer planet missions. I figure Ike is an easy launching off point and fueling missions from duna kethane mining will be easier.

Alacrity fitz

Of the choices given, I had to go with landing on planets. However, design, both of a mission and a ship to do that mission, is what I enjoy most, especially when I'm going beyond the requirements of the game itself. My mothership to Jool mission, for example, could have been done by a much smaller craft, but I included hydroponics and a centrifuge to support the crew, which was also much larger than it needed to be, since I can only control one kerbal at a time and never had kerbals in more than three places at a time.

Dreaming the "reach for the stars dream"; set foot on other worlds, even if it is only virtual. A lot of the story is going on in imagination. The game is like Lego, it is like a novel, one may write one's own cartoonish, kerbalish and epic space faring history.

I will never leave earth physically, as I am to old, not fit enough. But my mind can leave earth. And when I play KSP, my mind is on the Moon, on Mars, in orbit around Venus, in my imagination, I touch down on Europa and Titan, I watch the sparkle of the Sun from Charon. I dream of expanding borders of mankind. I dream of the rumbling thunder from thousands of kN under my seat. I dream of hoovering over Saturn's Rings, of weightless existence between the stars.

That is my fun in KSP.

This, basically. We seriously need a clapping smiley...

Actually, if there was Oculus Rift support which I believe there is for Unity at least then this dream seriously comes close to a reality
