CHAPTER 12: THE CONFRONTATION

Jeb: “How long until we get a useful transfer window?â€Â

Bob: “Depends on how you define 'useful'.â€Â

Jeb: “Kerbin or Duna, either one is friendly territory.â€Â

Bob: “Duna is coming up first, and that – hold on, unidentified contact, closing fast.â€Â

Jeb: “Boost shields, power up the lasers, I don't want to take any chances.â€Â

Malrick: “It could be a micrometeorite...â€Â

Lengas: “There haven't been any of those out here.â€Â

Jeb: “And if it is and it's heading right for us, it's still getting shot.â€Â

Bob: “Contact is showing a power signature. Guys, we're in trouble!â€Â

Jeb: “Bring the ship about and lock weapons!â€Â

Lengas: “OOF!â€Â

Handorf (in background): “What the Kerbin is going on?!â€Â

Malrick: “That things weapons are almost passing straight through our shields, only a small amount of energy is being dissipated!â€Â

Jeb: “Return fire!â€Â

Bob: “Confirmed hit, minimal damage.â€Â

Jeb: “Keep firing! Lengas, find a way to boost shields further!â€Â

Lengas: “Aye!â€Â

Handorf: “Can somebody answer my question, please?!â€Â

Malrick: “We're under attack, a Kraken vessel. Right now though, Bill needs your help.â€Â

Handorf: “Ok, ok, that's true...â€Â

Bill (in background): “Kraken, again? Ugh.â€Â

Handorf: "You say that as though you're being forced to eat a meal you've had 5 times in a row..."

*Lonestar rocks around, cables break loose*

Bob: “FRAK!â€Â

Jeb: “I've got the extinguisher if you need it!â€Â

Bob: “I'm ok, for now...â€Â

Lengas: “It's no good, the power supply to the shield generator is fluctuating, so I can't boost the shields any further!â€Â

Malrick: “Hull integrity at 74.5%!â€Â

Jeb: “Bob, here's the extinguisher. Malrick, keep firing!â€Â

Malrick: “We lost a cannon in that blast!â€Â

Lengas: “Damn it, I need an extinguisher over here!â€Â

*Loud bang, another cannon is knocked out, shield control panel is fried*

Malrick: “Another cannon is gone, only two are in alignment now!â€Â

Jeb: “As long as we still have some offensive ability...â€Â

Lengas: “Captain, I don't know how long I can keep her together now that my access to the shields is limited!â€Â

Malrick: “Lengas, does this capacitor go here, or --â€Â

Lengas: “No, no, no! That one goes there!"

Malrick: "Oh, I see, ok!"

Bob: “Another hit on the enemy, looks like we destroyed a power generator.â€Â

*Extremely loud bang. Multiple control panels burn out or explode, more cables break loose and some structural elements buckle*

Malrick: “AGH!â€Â

Lengas: “WHOA FRAK!â€Â

Handorf: “OOF!â€Â

Bob: “Damn it, critical hit on a major power relay, we're practically dead in the water!â€Â

Jeb: “No, no!â€Â

Lengas: “Ugh... that hurt...â€Â

Malrick: “I think I have a concussion...â€Â

Bill (in background): “Join the club...â€Â

Jeb: “Report?â€Â

Lengas: “Hull integrity is down to 48.2%, we have multiple minor hull breaches along the nacelles and one in the cabin but we have that covered. Shields, from what I can tell are --â€Â

*Loud bang, ship rocks*

Lengas: “... Shields are completely gone at the moment.â€Â

Jeb: “Weapons?â€Â

Malrick: “Offline.â€Â

Jeb: “Propulsion?â€Â

Malrick: “Also offline. The reactor is still functional though.â€Â

Jeb: “What about RCS, do we have that?â€Â

Malrick: “Most of the thrusters are online, although some are out of alignment.â€Â

Jeb: “Ok... Bob, plot a collision course.â€Â

Bob: “Umm, Jeb...â€Â

Jeb: “Don't bother questioning me, just do it.â€Â

Bob: “No, Jeb, the cruiser ceased fire and is hailing us.â€Â

Yes, I did consider it, and I did mention it in the next chapter. However, I've long since finished off the story in-game, so it's unfortunately a bit late. Don't worry, the next chapter will explain why I didn't do that :P

I do have plans for the lander though. You know, for landing and stuff. That landing and stuff will feature in... THE NEXT STORY, whenever it's all done (I still have a ton of in-game stuff to do, and the pressure's on because of 0.21 lurking around in the imminent future):wink:

Kraken Cruiser: “Divulging information such as that to your species would be to betray our forces and cause.â€Â

Jeb: “Oh really? If you're so confident in the abilities of your fleet, you'd give us the information, you pathetic piece of space junk!â€Â

Kraken Cruiser: “How quaint. Jebediah Kerman, you are to come aboard this unit immediately as per the terms of your surrender. Your refusal would be most unwise.â€Â

Jeb: “As if I'm just going to submit to your demands!â€Â

Kraken Cruiser: “To defy us is to kill your entire crew. You have a choice. Make the right one. You have one minute.â€Â

Bob: “It cut comms.â€Â

Lengas: “Well, this is not good...â€Â

Malrick: “Jeb, I have the main propulsion back online as well as weapons. We can still fight this thing.â€Â

Jeb: “No... no, I should go over there.â€Â

Lengas: “What, your actually going to go over to them?!â€Â

Jeb: “I'm thinking of this ship, and I'm thinking of you guys!â€Â

Malrick: “You heard that thing, there's no way it's going to let us live; the demise of our species?â€Â

Jeb: “It's worth a shot.â€Â

Bob: “Jeb, take this with you then...â€Â

Jeb: “A transponder?â€Â

Bob: “Do me a favour, and tag a weak point inside that thing. That is, if you are actually going over there...â€Â

Jeb: “Hmm... Ok then, but don't hold back. As soon as you get the signal and you have the tactical advantage, you open fire on that ship, even if I'm still on board. That's an order.â€Â

Malrick: “Understood....â€Â

Jeb: “Alright, be ready guys, I'm going out now...â€Â

Jeb: “Right, ok then...†*Sticks transponder on central structural beam*

Bob: “The cruiser just dropped its main shielding. The lasers will cut right through that armour without a problem now.â€Â

Lengas: “This is good...â€Â

Bill (in background): “Handorf, really, I'm ok, I can move around now.â€Â

Handorf (in background): “I... oh, alright then, but nothing too strenuous, ok?â€Â

Bob: “Hold on, the transponder, it's active!â€Â

Malrick: “Beginning targetting.â€Â

Handorf: “Maybe we could use the lander to destroy the vessel?â€Â

Lengas: “It would take too much time to prep it for undocking, plus one of us would have to fly it and sacrifice ourselves. The lasers will do the job.â€Â

Handorf: “Ok then...â€Â

Handorf: “Bill, you're not ready for this yet!â€Â
