So, just like the title says: Where are you from and where to do live?

I'm from Kassel a city basically in the centre of Germany with a population of about 200.000 people.

By now I live about 50 km outside of Vienna, Austria (1.6 million inhabitants).

You all (should) know Vienna, so let me tell you a few interesting things about Kassel, wich you probably never heard of before.

Kassel used to be the capital of Hessen-Kassel, a kind of State in the Holy Roman Empire (a group of small states that would later more or less form germany). Now, in the 18th century our Landgrave Frederick II needed money for his palaces and parks and parties. So he decided to sell mercenaries (if you are american you can probably guess right now) to the british - the infamous hessians. Wich they used in the American Revolutionary War. You might have heard term "hessians" in history classes, in Sleepy Hollow or in Assassins Creed 3.

Also, ever heard of Grimms' Fairy Tales? You know, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White? The Brothers Grimm collected a big part of their stories in Kassel, from a Woman that was well versed in folk tales. She actually lived in the quarter of the city next to the one I grew up.

Also, my real name is Tobias.

I love those kinda threads because I love diversity.

I'm from Istanbul which has about 15 million inhabitants I guess (I know it's a lot for a medium-sized city) and I am about to move to another city of Turkey for college. Istanbul was capital of Byzantium for long years, having the name Constantinople after Rome Empire divided into West and East. East was Byzantium and they chose Constantinople as capital because it had hills like Rome and it had kinda similar landscape those times. Now you can't see the landscape from buildings lol. In 1453 Ottoman Empire captured it and it was capital of Ottoman Empire for about 600 years. After it corrupted and Turkish Republic was found, it was no more a capital. You may be heard of Istanbul last few weeks because we had wide anti-government protests here which was famous with police violence. Protests still happen but only in weekends usually.

My real name is Miraç which means "miracle" in Arabic. But I have to say that we Turks are not Arabs because many people think like that. Only similarity we have with most Arabs is 99% of our country is Muslim.

I am from London, which I'm sure most people know is the capital of the UK. More specifically the south east of London, near to Kent. London has a long history as a capital of England, which it took from Colchester thousands of years ago. It has a population of 8 million or 12 million, depending on which measure you use. It could have even more people, however the boundaries are very blurred. Even where I live I am in both London and Kent.

My real name is Benjamin, which means Benjamin in English.

Haha, I read that in British accent from the beginning :D I must say that I'm a fan of British accent but since I spent some time in US I can't get rid of my American accent.

I'm from the Netherlands and Poland (yes, we can into space), and have spent much of my life in northern Sweden. The Netherlands is a beautiful little country in western Europe, perhaps most famous for large tulip fields and windmills, but also featuring such exciting things as canals, dijks, Roman ruins, and a large swath of land located below sealevel. Poland is a country located in eastern Europe, with a long history and a lot of culture. You can find everything between high mountains and dry deserts there, and it is one of the fastest growing economies in the EU. Sweden on the other hand is vast, undeveloped, and composed mainly of mountains in the north, forests in the middle, and agriculture in the south. It is one of the least densely populated countries in Europe, and also one of the larger ones. There's a lot of beautiful undeveloped land here, but also one of the most high-tech societies in the world. The Swedish economy is based on selling iron and paper.

My real name means dark rose.

I'm from America. I live about 30 Mins out from Philadelphia in New Jersey. I'm not Greek but i looked up what the name Nick means, and it means Victory Of The People and is of Greek origin. I'm Italian, Jewish, Polish, and Russian. (My mom's side is Italian, dads side is the rest.) The funny thing is that my Mom's grandpa immigrated to the US from Italy. Now the funny thing is that when my Pop Pop served in WWII, He bombed Italy. (Sicily, Rome, Naples, Florence, and he said that about 10 times they preformed bombing runs on Berlin, Germany.) Well that's a lot of personal info, but no names except mine so I'm safe, hopefully.

I live in America, about an hour from Johnson Space Center. I live in a tiny town of about 800 people spread out about the countryside. Literally, all we have is a service station and a meager truck stop. If you know your [Texas] history well enough you can probably decipher my location from my profile location.

Sydney!

Australia's largest and oldest city. First the lands of several aboriginal nations, what we know today as Sydney today began as a convict colony, with the site chosen because there was a stream of fresh water there. Much of the inner city's roads are derived from the original bush tracks.

Today, the Sydney region is home to 4.5 million people, spreading across the harbour and the basin which it formed.

A mix of sandstone and shale geology, it is a sprawling city centered on patches or higher density. National parks surround the greater metropolitan area. It's a multicultural city, with a large proportion of the people having migrated from somewhere else in the last few generations.

(Could go on, local history and geography is one of my favourite subjects, but that'll do.)

I live 40 mins from the city, in a northwestern suburb.

Where I'm sitting, listening to birds, and typing this now.

I'm from Zaragoza, it is the capital city of Aragon in Spain, it is known for it's basilica "El Pilar." which stands at the foot of the cold, rushing river Ebro:

It is also known for a strong regional culture and the style of singing/dancing known as "Jota"

Helsinki reporting in. Born and raised in this medium-sized and culturally active capital with perhaps the most practical public transport system in the world. With its aprox. 600 000 citizens (aroun´ a million in the "Greater Helsinki area") you can be anonymous, but still feel at home. We have a nice central park and alot of green spaces, this combined with the active presence of the sea (The Gulf of Finland) makes this "not-so-little" town quite a beautiful place. Despite the current state of the Baltic Sea in general. Curse those polluters! I live in the postal code 00240, that´s all the detail that I´ll give you about my whereabouts within this municipality.

However, you might occasionally catch me within the postal code 10641. That´s the Dragsvik garrison, close to the small coastal town of Ekenäs. The home of the (in)famous Marine Commandos.

Greetings from New York City! I'd consider it a quite pleasant place, many people are kind and willing to help strangers. New York, despite being the most populous city in the country at 8.3 million citizens, is not the capital of New York State, although nuclear weaponry seems to have a thing for us. The mayor of our city has done some weird things, like instating a city-wide bike service (which is actually kind of popular) and trying to ban sodas in large containers (which flopped miserably). That guy's term is nearly over, although several of the new candidates are involved in sex scandals, so, um, yay?
