Resistance: The interplanetary struggle

No, Ike has been fixed in 0.21. This story is in 0.20.2. Fortunately, the space snakes were kicked off our little rock around Duna :D

Also, the word at the end of this sentence:

Not sure if anybody is uncomfortable with that...

I think it fits right in.

CHAPTER 11: RECLAMATION

MISSION DETAILS: It's time to put an end to the constant fighting around Mun, but unfortunately, everything bar one fighter is engaged. Reaper 4 needs to take out the command ship in Mun orbit. This command ship is an upgraded variant of the original mechani-kraken that we encountered around Ike, so it's going to be a tough SOB to bring down. There's also a damaged probe that can be taken out as well. Mun will be ours again, at any cost.

Reaper 4: “Right, it's up to me, I guess. We just had to lose the Imperator, didn't we? Ugh...â€Â

Hanson: “You alright up there?â€Â

Reaper 4: “Well, I've been worse. I guess that probe will be easy pickings though.â€Â

Hanson: “Listen, I understand you're under a lot of pressure here, and we can fight for a while longer yet if you want to wait fo--â€Â

Reaper 4: “With all due respect, admiral, I do not believe that delaying will be favourable. I will see this through.â€Â

Hanson: “Brave of you. I wish you luck. Hanson out.â€Â

Reaper 4: “Now where's that probe...â€Â

30 minutes later...

Reaper 4: “Target in sight.â€Â

Kraken Probe: [WARNING, ENEMY VESSEL ON APPROACH. OFFENSIVE PROTOCOL INITIATED.]

Reaper 4: “You do realise that screaming your orders out like that is idiotic?â€Â

Kraken Probe: “And you're not idiotic for approaching this unit?!â€Â

Reaper 4: “Wow, that's the most informal I've ever heard your kind. Getting frustrated?â€Â

Kraken Probe: “We... You will fail!â€Â

Reaper 4: “Sounds like someone's a bit desperate. Don't worry, I'll put you out of your misery no--â€Â

Reaper 4: “Ok, you've had it.â€Â

Kraken Probe: “We only show weakness... to fool... you...â€Â

Reaper 4: “Oh get over yourselves, you're losing badly and you know it.â€Â

Kraken Probe: “There are others... of our kind moving in on your... world. You will... not... prevail...â€Â

Reaper 4: “Hmph. Well, I guess I'd better get that command ship.â€Â

Another 30 minutes later...

vyOzfFHl.png

Reaper 4: “Admiral Hanson, I've got the command ship in sight, moving to take care of it.â€Â

Hanson: “Make it count, son. We're relying on you here.â€Â

Reaper 4: “I won't fail, sir.â€Â

LYOBaeel.jpg

Kraken Command Ship: “So, you finally decided to seek this unit out... again...â€Â

Reaper 4: “It was always going to happen. Unfortunately for you, you won't be around for much longer to remember it!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “We beg to differ.â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “WHAT? AGH, YOU WILL SUFFER FOR THIS, MORTAL.â€Â

Reaper 4: “Umm, control? This thing just disintegrated a bit.â€Â

Hanson: “Probably a result of the other attacks that we sent its way. Do you have the telemetry?â€Â

Reaper 4: “Yeah. Well, time to get out of-- hold on, my controls. They're locked out!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “You... will... not... ESCAPE.â€Â

Hanson: "Yeah, he was..."

Analyst 2: “Umm, sir? Take a look.â€Â

Hanson: “Hmm? Oh my... it's done. The fighting on Mun...â€Â

Analyst 2: “With the command ship destroyed, what's sending the commands to the forces there?â€Â

Hanson: “Holy crap, it's done?! Mun is safe?!â€Â

CHAPTER 12: RECOLLECTION – PART 2

…

pvwnkkvl.png

Bilnard: “At this point, we told Dilcott what had happened.â€Â

Dilcott: “My heart sank, and a cold sweat hit me. Then, when I went to call for help or at least notify someone, the comms went dead.â€Â

AkVXbXxl.png

Dilcott: “I must have missed the proximity alerts in my blind attempts to fix the comms, and before I knew it, that probe was on top of me.â€Â

7QN1LWCl.png

4D8LIDSl.png

Dilcott: “It's fortunate that the probes can't lock out the controls of our ships. I fired the engines up to get the hell out of there, but the probe was fast... and armed. Odysseus was never going to escape.â€Â

AxSfBr8l.png

j4A4fiVl.png

Dilcott: “I tried to bring the ship around, to face that thing head on. Maybe I could ram it with my shields full forward. But no... no, shields cut out...â€Â

fAHwfM4l.png

Dilcott: “I did jam it's targeting systems a bit, but those things are bloody persistent, and hull breaches were becoming a concern, fast...â€Â

6HumSgul.png

Dilcott: “I targeted it, and... and I went full throttle. I lead to the destruction of Odysseus in an effort to deal with one probe.â€Â

Jeb: “You had no choice, Dilcott. You needed to kill that thing.â€Â

Dilcott: “NO CHOICE?! I had plenty of choice! I could have flashed that thing in a Krazinti style manoeuvre, but NOOOO, I rammed the damn ship into that abomination!â€Â

Bilnard: “Dilcott, Dilcott, calm down...â€Â

Jeb: “I didn't mean to--â€Â

Dilcott: “No, of COURSE YOU DIDN'T, you're Jebediah Kerman for crying out loud! Why would Jebediah Kerman EVER be in the wrong?!â€Â

Bilnard: “Alright Dilcott, that's enough!â€Â

Dilcott: “I... I...†*sob* “I didn't mean that...†*more sobbing*

Jeb: “Hey, it's ok, it's ok. You've had it rough, so let it out...â€Â

Handorf: “I can give you some antidepressants if you need, Dilcott.â€Â

Dilcott: “No, no, I think... *sniff* I think I'll be fine...â€Â

Bilnard: “If you want to take a break, you can.â€Â

Dilcott: “No, I'll finish telling what happened. Now, I rammed that probe. It was completely destroyed, along with the aft section of Odysseus.â€Â

FrfWJPAl.png

wAVfu7fl.png

InJ0eOVl.png

Dilcott: “The subsequent blast and all the tomfoolery with the engines ultimately resulted in the de-orbit of the ship. The blast knocked the engines offline too, so I couldn't re-establish orbit. I consigned myself to my fate.â€Â

J0Z9tpml.png

Dilcott: “And then, by some miracle, the systems rebooted, engines included. There was no question in my mind about slowing down, I had to or I'd be history. A few minutes later, I was standing in the largest debris field I think I'd ever seen.â€Â

Jeb: “What about my Junkyard on Kerbin?â€Â

Dilcott: “... Ok, the second largest debris field I'd ever seen, but you ruined the moment there.â€Â

Jeb: "Hmm..."

iMkFRX1l.png

oXixsnml.png

Dilcott: “Odysseus was no more.â€Â

Rodrin: “For us, the months passed by relatively fine and without much event. As we had each other, we were assured of mental stability.â€Â

Dilcott: “And then there was me, comms out and completely cut-off from them on a moon that was unreasonably dark, with what I presumed was a wreckage leaking radiation and had now-minimal food supplies. Needless to say, I didn't think I'd ever make it off Ike again. A few months later, and you prove me wrong.â€Â

Jeb: “Well, that's certainly an interesting recollection of a turbulent mission.â€Â

Dilcott: “I lost Odysseus, and it's just 'turbulent'?!â€Â

Bilnard: “Dilcott...â€Â

Dilcott: “I'm sorry, Jeb, I really am sorry...â€Â

Jeb: “Hey, it's ok, it's fine. I know you're struggling with guilt, but the loss of Odysseus... it really isn't something you should be concerned about.â€Â

Dilcott: “I guess... no, I know you're right... Listen, if it isn't too much trouble, I'd like to get on with the psychotherapy sessions, Handorf.â€Â

Handorf: “Of course, right this way...â€Â

Jeb: “Thanks for sharing, Dilcott.â€Â

Dilcott: “That's ok. I'm glad I could actually be useful.â€Â

*Dilcott and Handorf head for the centrifuge*

Jeb: *sigh* “Oh, Bill? What was that alarm in the pod before?â€Â

Bill: “Urgent message from KSC. Something big has happened around Minmus.â€Â

Jeb: “Minmus? We haven't lost it, have we?â€Â

Bill: “No, in fact, it's quite the opposite.â€Â

Jeb: "Wha...?"

The kraken has met its match.

1800 parts, eat THAT.

79k6PFZ.jpg

You know, from that angle, it almost qualifies for

Almost.

Also, I doubt that the Kraken digestive system can handle more than 500 parts. I hear they have some sort of issue with 'digestion lag' or something. 1800 parts will probably kill their processors. That said, it'll probably kill our processors too :0.0:

Next chapter soon :)

CHAPTER 13: TURNING POINT

...

Jeb: *sigh* “Oh, Bill? What was that alarm in the pod before?â€Â

Bill: “Urgent message from KSC. Something big has happened around Minmus.â€Â

Jeb: “Minmus? We haven't lost it, have we?â€Â

Bill: “No, in fact, it's quite the opposite.â€Â

12 hours earlier, Minmus orbit...

Hawk 1: “Libra, I'm assuming final escort position now, over.â€Â

Lemburry: “Roger that, Hawk 1. Just don't drift too far away, would you?â€Â

Hawk 1: “Like hell I'm gonna do that. Now that the Kraken finally turned their attention to Minmus, you need protection. That device needs protection.â€Â

Halemone: “That device above all else?â€Â

Hawk 1: “I'd say you guys are on par with the torpedo.â€Â

Shepdon: “Joy, I'm as important as a damned torpedo.â€Â

Lemburry: “This torpedo may be our only hope. You do remember our advanced scans?â€Â

Shepdon: “Yes, more Kraken units were detected beyond Eeloo orbit, the guys at Farpoint Base made that very clear. Those units won't reach us for years though.â€Â

Lemburry: “You never know, these ones could be more advanced than the current ones.â€Â

Shepdon: “Doubt it...â€Â

zfmlE8Xl.png

Hawk 1: “Yeah, now that I'm here, that probe took notice. One moment, Libra.â€Â

sT8gNAjl.png

Hawk 1: “Mother of...!â€Â

Lemburry: “Don't let that thing send our location out!â€Â

Hawk 1: “Don't worry.â€Â

nSoc5OFl.png

yyUajGHl.jpg

Hawk 1: “Probe destroyed. Did it transmit anything?â€Â

Shepdon: “The usual distress beacon, annoyingly. We could be in for some chop now.â€Â

Lemburry: “Agh, that won't be good. We may want to recall the Hydra too.â€Â

Hawk 1: “Probably a good idea. Hydra, do yo--â€Â

Hydra: “Mayday, mayday, we're under attack, I repeat, we're under attack!â€Â

Lemburry: “What?!â€Â

bqGc4uCl.png

Hydra: “Taking fire from another command ship, same class as the first mechani-kraken.â€Â

Hawk 1: “Do you need assistance?!â€Â

Hydra: “Negative, stay with the Libra, Hawk 1.â€Â

c1GohXOl.png

Hydra: “AGH! Firing another torpedo!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “Don't count on it striking this unit.â€Â

hRoPduOl.jpg

Hydra: “Damn it, that thing shot my last torpedo down!â€Â

Hawk 1: “Get out of there, Hydra, NOW!â€Â

Hydra: “My controls are frozen!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “A pity, for you.â€Â

Hydra: “Wait, what?! NO, ARRRGGHH!â€Â

Hawk 1: “Hydra?!â€Â

Hydra: “Ejecting!â€Â

RfmzBBnl.png

Kraken Command Ship: “What a shame that you should know defeat. Of course, the shame is your own. Victory will be ours, mortals.â€Â

Hydra: “No, NO, I'm defenceless!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “Oh well.â€Â

M8XlwK7l.jpg

Hydra: “NOOO----.../////#######------â€Â

Hawk 1: “Damn it!â€Â

Lemburry: “Fraaaaak.â€Â

Halemone: “Should we get this thing armed?â€Â

Lemburry: “Yes, get it armed, NOW!â€Â

Shepdon: “On it!â€Â

30 minutes later...

i4TMVuAl.png

Hawk 1: “Incoming. Libra, get out of here but fire that torpedo when you can. I'll distract it, if possible.â€Â

Lemburry: “Don't be a fool, now come on!â€Â

Hawk 1: “That device is defenceless, it'll get shot down if we leave now. I've got to divert the attention of that ship.â€Â

Lemburry: “Alright, good luck Hawk 1. Halemone, is that thing ready to fire?â€Â

Halemone: “Almost, Lemburry...â€Â

Lemburry: “How long?â€Â

Halemone: “Less than a minute.â€Â

Hawk 1: “Firing now!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “You mortal fools fumble in your own ignorance, trying desperately to cling onto whatever tattered shreds of hope you have remaining in your lives. Your ancients were much the same when their dissolution came about.â€Â

Hawk 1: “Oh yeah? Well fumble in my laser cann-- oh boy, you locked my controls out, didn't you?â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “Naturally. Now, be gone.â€Â

Lemburry: “Time to go. Halemone, that thing had better be ready to fire!â€Â

Hawk 1: “Frak, ejecting!â€Â

sDy0cuTl.png

Hawk 1: “Libra, run, there's no point staying!â€Â

Lemburry: “Halemone...!â€Â

Halemone: “Ready!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “Libra... this unit remembers you. This unit remembers your survival of our attack around Eve. You have eluded destruction for far too long, and now you are caught in a corner with little hope of living to see another day.â€Â

Lemburry: “You can't be serious...â€Â

Shepdon: “The very same one as Eve?!â€Â

Lemburry: “Grrrr... Halemone, FIRE!â€Â

Halemone: “FIRING!â€Â

PN2yAOvl.png

Lemburry: “OOF!â€Â

71qJk1jl.jpg

91nDM65l.png

Lemburry: “Get clear!â€Â

Kraken Command Ship: “What twisted device have you conjured up?! No!â€Â

Shepdon: “Surprise, you alien scum!!!â€Â

pgQQQBDl.jpg

Kraken Command Ship: -Indeterminable synthetic screeching- “YOU WILL PAY, MORTAL FILTH!â€Â

U8N8g22l.jpg

Shepdon: “Oh frak.â€Â

Lemburry: “Full throttle!â€Â

Halemone: “Engines non-responsive! The EMP from the device got through our shields!â€Â

Lemburry: “FIX IT!â€Â

Halemone: “OOF!

Shepdon: “ARGH!â€Â

Lemburry: “NOOO!â€Â

GmyryHxl.jpg

At KSC...

Gene: “What the hell just happened out there?!â€Â

Bobsey: “Confirmed detonation of the prototype Krakensbane device. The pulse has covered a 75,000km radius in every direction. The entire Kerbin system has been exposed.â€Â

Gene: “Kerbin, Mun, and Minmus?â€Â

Bobsey: “Looks like it.â€Â

Gene: “And what of the Kraken around here?â€Â

Bobsey: “Checking now... in fact, the entire analysis department is looking at it.â€Â

Hanson: “I just had a call with my family cut off by a big green flash. Anyone care to tell me what's going on?â€Â

Bobsey: “Gene, we have confirmation. Every Kraken unit within the affected area has been crippled and shutdown. No fighting anywhere.â€Â

Gene: “Are you serious? The Kraken are dealt with?â€Â

Hanson: “The Krakensbane device?â€Â

Bobsey: “Only the prototype, sirs. Only the Kerbin system has been covered, but it has ceased all conflict around here. The rest of the planets are unaffected.â€Â

Gene: “Mother of Kerbin, it works? It actually works?!â€Â

Hanson: “What about our forces?â€Â

Bobsey: “They'll be back on their feet in a few hours, that EMP managed to get through the shields of, well, everything.â€Â

Gene: “How long until those tentacled freaks send a second wave?â€Â

Bobsey: “That is one thing I'm unsure of. However, there is something I'm most definitely sure of.â€Â

Gene: “And that is?â€Â

Bobsey: “The real thing on its way to Duna will get rid of the Kraken for good.â€Â

10 hours later, Minmus orbit...

*Alarms, sparks, and loose cables in the cabin*

Shepdon: “...â€Â

Halemone: “Ugh... good grief...â€Â

Shepdon: “I don't think... I've ever had... such a rough ride...â€Â

Lemburry: “I don't think even aerobraking around Eve was this bad. My head...â€Â

Shepdon: “ARGH!â€Â

Lemburry: “Shepdon?!â€Â

Shepdon: “My chest... it's killing me!â€Â

Halemone: “Let's take a look.â€Â

*Shepdon reveals extensive burns and lacerations*

Lemburry: “Holy frak.â€Â

Shepdon: “AAAGH!â€Â

Halemone: “Damn it, where's the first aid kit?!â€Â

Lemburry: “Here, here, take it!â€Â

Shepdon: “AAAAAAGH!â€Â

Halemone: “Try to relax, this is gonna sting, buddy.â€Â

Shepdon: “Wha... what is... it... OOOWWW!â€Â

Halemone: “Medical gel, should ease the pain a bit.â€Â

Shepdon: I don't think... that's going to help with... fourth degree... burns... AGH!â€Â

Lemburry: “Halemone, comms?â€Â

Halemone: “Err... offline, but I can sort that now.â€Â

Lemburry: “Do it. Hey, Shepdon, listen, you're going to be fine, we'll get help.â€Â

Shepdon: “Not this time... Lemburry. I don't think... I'll pull through this one...â€Â

Lemburry: “Nonsense, the almighty Shepdon is a survivor. You hear that? You'll survive, buddy.â€Â

Shepdon: “Lemburry, let's not... be fools... this is it.â€Â

Lemburry: “No, no it's not...â€Â

Halemone: “I've got comms back and the distress signal is whirring.â€Â

Lemburry: “Alright....â€Â

Shepdon: “Lemburry, just make sure...â€Â

Lemburry: *sniffle* “Shepdon...â€Â

Shepdon: “Let my family know that... I did my duty.â€Â

Lemburry: “You did more than that, buddy.â€Â

Halemone: “Lemburry, we're losing him.â€Â

Lemburry: “Shepdon?â€Â

Shepdon: “The stars...â€Â

Lemburry: “Shepdon?!â€Â

Shepdon: “...â€Â

*Flatline*

Halemone: *Sigh*

Lemburry: “So long... Shepdon...â€Â

Well. There goes the Kraken. Wonder what they will think when they see the kerbals flinging mass produced Krakensbane missiles at them.

No doubt, someone is going to fall into a pit of Space Asps with one of those and do the best thing evar by eliminating the space snakes.
