smallest ship for grand tour without refuling.

Recommended Posts

I'm in process of finishing an grand tour with no refueling, currently waiting for the Eeloo burn with plenty of dV left.

Landed on all bodies except Jool obviously with an rocket who was stock except mechjeb.

Description of my trip.

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/44623-275-ton-stock-grand-tour

I used one first and second stage of the ship, the first stage held the bulk fuel and the Laythe and Tylo lander. it did only stop at Eve, Duna, Laythe and Tylo. Used Upper stage to deorbit the Tylo lander. The upper stage with an LV-N and 3*360 liter fuel tanks was used alone at Moho, Ike, Dress, Val and obviously the rest after Tylo.

Total weight was 275 ton in LKO.

Rules: Stock, except mechjeb, protractor and other things for control and utilities. Used mechjeb and kerbal alarm clock myself.

No fuel depots, you are not allowed to split the ship in Kerbin or solar orbit and put one fuel depot at Duna and one at Laythe while you continue to Eve. Like me you are allowed to split up the ship and not all parts has to visit all planets. If you use an reuseable upper stage or disposable stages is up to you. You must plant an flag, in effect you must enter en pod between the landings, its however legal to use an seat on an lander and go from Eve to Moho and then directly to Duna using an ion powered lander.

Obviously it most to save on the Eve lander who was non optimal for me.

Here's my single launch, no refuel, stock grand tour ship that includes a reusable lander for all planets except Eve (Eve is a separate one time use lander) with reusable rover and reusable probes (you're not going to land on a planet without first sending an unmanned probe, are you?). I finished the mission with fuel to spare.

*Turns on Infinite Fuel* Done! using just a Comand pod Mk 1, LV-909 engine and FL-T100 fuel tank...

I think you need to re-structure and think about the rules more... and give us your reason for doing this? some kind of backstory makes all the difference

He did specify "Rules: Stock"

I agree about it being nice to have a decent backstory, but the "Infinite Fuel" is taken care of.

F-12 'debug' menu is stock... you can open it from either the KSC screen or in-flight!

and by the way, it's a courtesy to hit 'edit post' instead of double posting...

(None of this meant in any ofensive way whatsoever, and just noticed this is actually a Necro - a dead challenge originally posted over a year ago that someone has stumbled across and thought it's worthy of an attempt... but may never go anywhere because the OP is not aware that anyone has started posting in a thread that started and died so long ago, especially by internet-time standards!)

And IMHO, a debug mode is meant for debugging, not for actually playing the game.

Nor in my opinion either, but that's why this needs to be pointed out - too many will use it and not say anything, which defeats the object of the challenge, and can falsely make someone feel superior to others in some way :-/

Luckily this is a very nice community, and if it wasn't me that had said someting, you can guarantee someone else would... but maybe without the disclaimer bit at the bottom about not intending offense  (maybe I should add it to my signature, as others have lol!)
