‘The Wideboy’ is widely regarded as a useless vehicle by Kerbal engineers, since it can’t go very fast or high, nor can it turn quickly or go anywhere without a very long runway.

Many have also been quick to point out that there is a bit missing on the bottom just behind where the pilots sit. However the designers insist this is a feature to enable payloads to be transported over long distances.

Some Quick Ideas

The idea for this aircraft that I originally had in mind was an Orbital Sciences Pegusus style launcher, but

during creation I also had the idea that it could be used to deliver drop pods like below:

(those are just 1 man lander pods with parachutes attached to a decoupler)

Or indeed pretty much anything you want!

Tips

1. Will not take off until the runway drops away at the end

2. It does tend to want to veer one way or another on the runway, so try to catch the aircraft as early as possible and counteract with some rudder

3. Ignore the (sometimes quite violent) vibrations as it picks up speed, those are normal

4. After takeoff, it's capable of a 20 degree climb (depending on payload) while still gaining speed

5. About 1/3 or more engine power required to avoid what can only be described as a plummet rather than a descent.

I like the design, however I felt some modifications were needed. I felt the 2m rocket fuel tank, struts and wing fuel tanks were unnecessary. The original design came in at 35.68 tons the modded version weighs 16.49 tons. All in All great design, thanks for the upload!

Interesting design, I've built a similar plane, except put the fuel tanks out on struts, with space for cargo in the middle, instead of on the belly.Mine looks like this: http://imgur.com/a/zzKX7

This is what I love about the KSP community, the fact that you can put your ideas out there and have them come back with improvements! The big fuel tank was there due to my gross overestimation of how much fuel would be required. huggy, would you mind posting the .craft file for your version, i'd love to have a play with it!
