Start out simple, then add on as you learn. Eventually, you will be to all the planets in the Kerbal System. Then, it is on to colonizing Kerbal Space.

My current project, low cost small high performance probes including this little orbiter made with some Nova Punch mod parts.

The learning is a massive part of the fun, and yes, you have a LOT of it to do. But of course the beauty of this sandbox game is you don't have to if you don't want to, just bang a few tanks and engines together and go fire them at stuff, it's still a whole load of fun watching what happens.

Personally I've found the knowledge journey a huge part of the appeal, but them I'm a massive geek. The feelings of accomplishment you get for getting somewhere in a somewhat decent fashion are huge. Landing on the Mun for the first time was a great feeling. I was so proud, (as well as having a lot more respect for Armstrong et al!).

Basically, this game is as deep as you want it to be. I mean seriously, have a watch of this and realise just how far you can go:

Monkeh is quite right, do whatever you want... if you want to, that is.

I also lean in a geek-type direction and love how "real-ish" world maths can be used here in a cartoony environment.
