Kerbal Speak

I'm not sure if anyone has posted something like this before, but my searches didn't turn up quite what I was looking for. I've noticed we have a lot of terms that we use that start with Kerb-, and as such I see lots of people use the wrong term to describe what they are talking about. Example: People calling the home planet Kerbal. I thought perhaps we could create an official list to educate the masses.

Here are the terms I know (or think I know). If you know any more, or know of a correction, please let me know.

Kerbal = The little green guys we have come to love. Kerbalnaut is acceptable as well. (Kerman, Kermen being debated)

Kerbin = The home planet of Kerbals, and also the analog of Earth.

Kerbol = The sun that is at the center of the solar system.

Kerbal Solar System and Kerbolar Solar System are being debated

Kerbal Galaxy = ?????

Kerbal Universe = ?????

Kermanity = Analog to Humanity?

Hopefully this will help educate people on the proper term to use in their posts and lessen the confusion by some readers who are not quite sure what the poster is talking about.

Well, our Sun is called Sol. Our solar system is called the Sol System.

I believe the term Solar System just means "system with a sun".

I think that would make it the Kerbol System or Kerbol Solar System.

would it not be '' KerbAl solar system '' ? Kerbal being the adjective.

With kerbal being the adjective would

man(/human)=kerman

men=kermen

humanity=kermanity

not be more accurate?

Well, our Sun is called Sol. Our solar system is called the Sol System.

Actually that's a misconseption, our sun is just called Sun.

The name Sol is for the Roman sun god. In latin it's also called Sol, but that translates to Sun.

That is for English though, other languages have similar words for the Sun like: son, sunce, slunce, suno, sonne, zon.

Of course there are languages which use sol or similar wording and there are languages a completely different name.

The word sol is used by astronomers to refer to a solarday.

The Sun in KSP is (officially) called the Sun, Kerbol is the name given by the community.

I personally like Kerbolar System best, but I could see how you may be right. Perhaps others will give their opinion as well.

As for the Kerm- versions you use, Kerman is being used as a Proper name in-game by the Kerbals. That would be the equivalent of your name being Robje Human. I don't think that seems correct. I do however like the word Kermanity, so I am a little torn on the the use of Kerm- as a base.

Lets see what some others think.

This would technically be fine for now, but what will we do if Squad ever adds more than the current solar system? Would we always just refer to the "Sun in ____olar System"? I think having a unique name for the Sun would be best.

Also, I realize that using Sol is a misconception, but I think its a popular enough misconception that we could roll with it. I know of at least 2 other video games that refer to our solar system (the one containing the real Earth) as Sol, basing it off of that being the name of the Sun. Spore, and EVE Online are the 2 games I speak of.

Your name (assuming it's a typical Steven Poole, or something similar) would seem incorrect for most foreign humans, and most non-modern humans.

Why would you call yourself the equivalent of Rob Human? Well, perhaps to distinguish from other space explorers (Albert Rhesus Monkey, Laika Dog, and similar), or other intelligent but-as-yet-unknown Kerbal species. Or to contrast Jeb Kerman and Julia Kerfem. Or just because that's the way they do it.
